Who We Are

Dogs for the Deaf rescues and professionally train dogs to assist people and enhance their lives. We maintain a lifelong commitment to all dogs we rescue and all teams we serve. Dogs for the Deaf has a 501(c)(3) tax exempt status with the IRS. All gifts are tax deductible according to current laws. Donations of all sizes are welcome and help provide specially trained dogs for those who need them. No tax dollars support our program. Individuals or groups may sponsor the placement of a specially trained dog for $5,000. The program's investment per Hearing Dog is approximately $25,000. This includes the selection of the dog, veterinary care, training, placement, and follow up for the life of the team. All Dogs are placed free of charge. Dogs for the Deaf (DFD) was founded in 1977 by the late Roy G. Kabat, a long-time Hollywood and circus animal trainer who raised animals for motion pictures and television shows including "Dr. Doolittle" and "Born Free." His daughter, Robin Dickson, is his successor and the CEO/President of Dogs for the Deaf. Wonderful dogs that make loving pets and companions. Dogs for the Deaf
