Ugly Mutts mission is to rescue as many dogs as possible and to adopt them into stable, permanent loving homes with committed families throughout Ontario.

Twenty million stray dogs are killed every year on this planet. That means 38 dogs die every minute.

Ugly Mutts Volunteers came together out of their individual love for dogs and the realization that working as a team and combining our efforts we could make a real change and give dogs that second chance for a happy future that they so rightly deserve. We believe that a life is a life, and regardless of whether you are a purebred dog or a mix of 10 different breeds, whether your previous owner cared for you lovingly or you were dumped along the side of the road as a puppy, all dogs are deserving of our compassion and care. As we do not have a shelter or a location to house the dogs relying instead on private foster homes, and because we also feel a duty to ensure the safety of people, we are unable to rescue any dog that has aggression towards humans or that suffers from a psychosis. Still however, even with our limited resources, our Rescue Team manages to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome approximately 250 to 300 dogs each year.

Whether you are looking to adopt a dog or in need of a new home for a beloved pet, our experienced volunteers will ensure the best options for you and your family.

Calling our rescue Ugly Mutts is our tongue-in-cheek way of paying homage to all of the not-so-purebred, slightly over-weight, under-bitten, wonky-eared, dewclaw-missing dogs of the world.

Ugly Mutts Goals Are:

To provide a second chance to any deserving dog in need

To promote good pet ownership

To provide guidance and instruction in positive reinforcement to our adoptive families

To provide the best alternative to loving dog owners who are unable to continue caring for their pets.

If you see a dog currently listed for adoption that you think would be a good addition to your family, please visit our main website at Ugly Mutts Dog Rescue and submit an adoption application. Once your application is received and deemed to be a suitable match for the specific pet, a member of our Adoption Team will be in contact to answer any questions you may have about the pet. Also check out our Adoption FAQ'S on the main site.

Appointments to meet a specific pet are arranged by appointment only to approved adopters.

All of our dogs have been assessed for suitability, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed and have had an overall health check.

All they need now is a loving place to call home!

Are You In Need Of A New Loving Home For Your Pet?

With over 30 years of experience helping pet owners find loving, suitable new homes for their pets, Ugly Mutts Coordinators offer you a caring and compassionate alternative to placing your beloved pet in a pound or shelter. Ugly Mutts Dog Rescue offers your dog a loving, pet-friendly environment where they are treated like our own pet until such time that we can place them in a permanent new home, with a suitable, loving family. You will receive notification of when your pet has found its new home and will receive a picture of your dog with their new family. You will also have access to the pet's Happy Tails page and watch as they transition into their new home. This allows you as the previous owner to see that the choice you made in rehoming your pet with Ugly Mutts was the right choice for your pet.
