About Us

Visit us at Mingle with our Mutts on the first and third Sundays of each month at the Franklin County Dog Shelter (behind the Menard's store on Morse Road) in Columbus, from noon to two p.m.  We are with the Saving Pets One a a Time group (SPOT).

Adopting A Friend

Please email brenda.black@odrc.state.oh.us to find out more about adopting a trained prison dog!  Our dog visits are made by appointment ONLY and only by those with approved applications.  You may be directed to the rescue group's website to do an online app, or we will provide one for you. Application approvals are at the discretion of the rescue group. NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE. We respond by email within 24 hours of your inquiry.

Who We Are

We are Southeastern Correctional Institution, a minimum security male prison in Lancaster, Ohio. We take rescued dogs who have been spayed or neutered and are UTD on all shots, and assign them to inmate handlers who then train them in basic obedience. After four to six weeks, the dogs are ready for adoption into loving homes. Our dogs are from Fairfield Area Humane Society (Lancaster), Saving Pets One at a Time (Morgan County) & Perry County Humane Society. We do not take dogs from private parties; they must go through one of the rescue groups we work with. Please do NOT call us to surrender a dog, we will not take it.
