Circle P Sanctuary and Ranch
Who We Are . . . In May of 2003, we were presented with the opportunity to save two horses from being taken to auction which, given the physical and medical condition of these horses, they certainly would have been sold for slaughter. In 2005, over 90,000 unwanted horses were slaughtered in the USA, and in 2006 the number grew to 100,000. These horses (Dusty and Colonel) had been abandoned at a boarding facility for a period of five years.
In June of 2004, we started looking for some property to house Dusty and Colonel. We searched for quite a while nearly giving up when we decided to look at one more place -wouldn’t you know we found a little slice of heaven right here in Marengo, Ohio! We purchased just over 86 acres and named it “The Circle P Ranch, LLC”. Finally after major reconstruction we move Dusty and Colonel to the Ranch in July of 2005.
In September of 2005, our ranch family grew considerably. In August of 2006, we created the non profit Circle P Sanctuary, Inc. and applied for Recognition of Exemption Under Section 501 ©(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All donations made to the Circle P Sanctuary, Inc. will go to the direct care of the animals.
There are several ways you can help support our projects. First is a monetary donation which would be used to purchase feed, bedding, veterinary care and farrier care, etc. Second, we need volunteers to help fund raise and organize various charitable events. Finally, we could use equipment for the animals care.
Thank You for taking the time to consider participating in our cause. We realize there is a great demand for your charitable dollars. Rest assured, the animals at the Circle P Sanctuary, Inc. will benefit completely from your generosity.
Adopting a Friend -Our adoption policies at the Circle P Sanctuary entail at least 3 visits to meet and work with the adoptable horse in person. This is to ensure that both the Adopter and the horse being adopted are a good match, and there are no surprises when everybody goes home. Adopter must be at least 25 years old.
Our adoption donation is the same for all horses $500. This donation is actually money to be used for the new horse (Veterinary care, immunizations, farrier, dental care, etc.) which will fill the space the adopted horse leaves behind. Thus, each horse gives new life to another horse in need of relief.
We adopt horses out within a five hour drive from our facility (Central Ohio), as we do visit the potential home where the horse will be residing prior to the completion of the adoption.
Horses cannot be resold, given away or bred (females). If, for some reason, the original adoptive family can no longer care for the horse, it must be returned to the Circle P Sanctuary.
The Sanctuary reserves the right to transport the horse to it's new home at a rate of $.50/mile round trip. For instance, if the distance is 50 miles one way, the transport fee would be 100 miles X $.50 = $50.00.
