Our Featured Pet...

"Southern Ohio Standard Poodle Rescue" is a run off of "We Deserve A Second Chance Rescue". I have been doing rescue in my home for 13 years. When I moved to Southern Ohio 6 years ago I decided to help all breeds and started the group We Deserve A Second Chance Rescue, now at an alarming rate Standard Poodles (my breed of choice) are showing up in the pounds and need a place to go, so my husband and I have decided to form the a rescue and mainly focus on Standard Poodles. Many people purchase Standard Poodles and do not have a clue of their requirements. They are extremely active and they require a lot of grooming care.

Who We Are

Southern Ohio Standard Poodle Rescue is an all volunteer organization that works with veterinarians, shelters, other rescues, and families who need to rehome their poodle. All poodles are spayed or neutered, heartworm tested, vaccinated and groomed prior to adoption.

Adopting a friend

The Adoption Process............ The first step in our adoption process is to completely fill out an adoption application. Our Adoption Requirements are You must be 21 and living on your own If you rent your home, you will be asked to provide a letter from your landlord or a copy of your lease indicating that you are permitted to have a large dog on the property. Any other pets you have in your home must be spayed/neutered, and current on vaccines. If you have young children we will have to see how your children and the dog get along. You will be asked to bring your children to the intial visit so we can see how your children treat the dog and how the dog reacts to your children. We prefer to place Standard Poodles in homes with children over 8 years of age.

About Standard Poodles!

About the breed Poodles are intelligent, alert, and active. They are notable for their keen sense for instinctual behavior. In particular, marking and hunting drives are more readily observable than in most other breeds. Classified as highly energetic, poodles can also get bored fairly easily and have been known to get creative about finding mischief. Poodles are extremely people-oriented dogs and, therefore, are eager to please. They are excellent watchdogs, but unlike some working breeds, don't usually become "one-person" dogs when they are part of a family. Standard Poodles in particular tend to be good with children. Poodles are adaptable and easy to train. Like most dogs, they appreciate daily exercise, such as a walk or a play session. Most are fairly agile and athletic. Poodles will play ball and love to fetch. Play time is very important, and a poodle must have exercise every day. Potty training can be difficult in many dogs, but the poodle is one of the easiest to train. However, they are animals that need time to understand what you want from them. It may take a while, but poodles are very smart and learn more quickly than most dogs. Grooming Standard Poodles need regular brushing and grooming. They should be brushed and combed at least 3-4 times a week and groomed every 6-8 weeks. Grooming can cost $75-$125 each time depending on where you live.
