Heart of Ohio Great Pyrenees Rescue, Inc. has been swamped with Pyrs that need new homes. Often, we hear about Pyrs that need new homes but can stay in their original homes for a while. We hang on to their information in case one of our dogs does not match with your needs. Please consider a second hand dog - they are most grateful!

Who We Are

Heart of Ohio Great Pyrenees Rescue, Inc.(HOGPR), is a non-profit organization to rescue, foster and educate about the Great Pyrenees breed. Our mission is to: provide care for, and including a safe haven for, lost and abandoned Great Pyrenees in OH; place rescued Great Pyrenees into loving, suitable homes that will care for, protect and love the dog(s); educate the general public about Great Pyrenees and to educate people who adopt Great Pyrenees about the breed; and to educate the public at large about pet ownership responsibilites.
Our organization places dogs found in Ohio shelters to homes in Ohio. We keep the dogs for a minimum of six weeks. During this time, they are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, put on heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and put through a series of temperment tests.

Adopting A Friend

HOGPR places Pyrs in Ohio homes with adequate fencing and kids older than ten years of age.
If you are interested in adopting a dog from our organization, please email us at mailtoald@aol.com. We will then send you an informational packet about Great Pyrenees. This information helps potential adoptors decide if this is the breed for them. Inside the packet, you will also find an application. By filling out this application honestly and fully, we can place the right dog in the right home. Please keep in mind that our volunteers spend countless hours with each dog and get a pretty good feel for each one. It is best for our volunteers to match the right dog for you, even if your match isn't available yet. Once HOGPR receives your completed application, a volunteer will contact you for a telephone interview and to set up an appointment to meet a potential dog, (if your match is available). No matter how in love you may be with the dog that you meet, HOGPR wants you to think about this decision thoroughly and at least overnight. The process is almost complete with a home visit. This visit is not with the dog but a volunteer to ensure your new charge will be housed in a secure, loving environment. If all is well, arrangements will be made to bring your new dog home. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND OUR ORGANIZATION IS RUN BY VOLUNTEERS THAT DO RESCUE FOR LOVE OF THE BREED. OUR VOLUNTEERS ALSO HAVE OTHER COMMITMENTS LIKE FULL TIME JOBS AND FAMILIES. SOMETIMES IT TAKES US A COUPLE OF DAYS TO RECEIVE AND RESPOND TO YOUR EMAILS. PLEASE BE UNDERSTANDING. WE DO THE BEST WE CAN THE FASTEST WE CAN. THANK YOU.
Keep in mind that a dog's true personality will surface after approximately 6 weeks after being moved. Please evaluate whether you have the time and patience to give your dog this 6 week adjustment period. HOGPR also recommends enrolling in an obedience class with your dog, even if he/she already knows some obedience commands. Going through a class together helps you bond and reinforces you as a new leader to your dog.
Our volunteers are always available for questions to help ease the transition.
