Who We Are

We are an all-volunteer, non-profit corporation operating in Rochester, New York. We are a fully tax exempt, 501(c)(3) charitable organization and all donations are tax deductible. Our mission is to rescue, provide sanctuary and medical care to ultimately rehome abandoned, surendered, stray, abused or neglected dogs; and educate the public on the plight of homeless dogs, the benefits of adoption, the importance of spay/neuter and the proper care of dogs.

Collectively, our officers and volunteers have many years of experience in dog rescue and we have a very diversified Board of Directors, all with varying backgrounds in animal care.

Adopting a friend

Nuts for Mutts Rescue, Inc. is committed to finding the best possible permanent home for the dogs in the rescue program. To this end, the following adoption policies will be followed:

a) All applicants for adoption will be required to complete an Adoption Application, either online or in printed copy.

b) All applicants must agree to undergo personal and vet reference checks and home visits.

c) Dogs will only be adopted into homes in the local Rochester, NY area.

d) A non-refundable adoption donation is required and a legally binding Adoption Agreement will be executed at the time a dog is placed. Adoption donations are non-negotiable and payment must be made in full prior to or at the time of placement of the dog.

e) Applicants are required to provide veterinary and personal references and contact veterinary facilities to authorize release of their records to a Nuts for Mutts Rescue representative upon request.

f) Potential adoptive homes with other dogs or cats that are not spayed or neutered will not be considered unless there are documented medical reasons why alteration should not be performed.

g) Applicants who rent their homes must verify that they are permitted to have a dog and provide a landlord contact number on the adoption application. Landlords must be contacted in every case, without exception, to confirm their approval of the potential adoption.

h) The primary adopter must be at least 21 years old.

i) We are solely committed to the dogs accepted into the rescue. We want to place them loving, permanent homes and go to great lengths to match each dog with the right family. We reserve the right to decline any adoption based on what we feel is in the best interest of the dog.

j) At the time of adoption, copies of all available records will be provided to the adopter. All dogs are spayed or neutered before adoption, current on vaccinations, tested for heartworm, and will be on a heartworm/flea/tick preventative medication. Each dog will also have a microchip implanted prior to adoption.

k) Prior to approval of any adoption, a home visit by a Nuts for Mutts Rescue, Inc. volunteer is mandatory. We do not ship or deliver dogs and there is NO exception to this rule.

l) We do our best to accurately assess each of our dogs; however, Nuts for Mutts Rescue, Inc. carries no warranty of any kind, express or implied.
