Humane Society of Yates County

Our Mission

“Our Mission is to advance the humane treatment of animals and to foster humane relationships between the animals and people of Yates County.” Our Mission will be accomplished by: * matching stray or unwanted animals with homes where they will give and receive love * trap, neuter and release events to reduce the number of feral cats * liaison with Yates County Animal Control to return adoptable dogs to new homes * programs in schools and elder facilities to educate people and to demonstrate and support the value of healthy relationships between individual animals and people * provision of a home at the shelter for unadoptable animals

The Shelter of Hope is the first ever in Yates County. We will offer a wide variety of services to the public, such as, grooming services, caring grief counselors to help you deal with a decision about your pet's quality of life or loss of a pet. We also offer our Community Education room to various clubs and youth groups to hold meetings and learn about the proper care of animals. Our shelter is a very bright and cheerful place to visit. There is so much to see at our shelter. You can watch our cats have fun in their Cat Garden or in the Cat Solarium, where they get lots of sunlight and fresh air! We need lots of volunteers to play with our cats and dogs. We are able to stay open only with the generosity of private donations. So won't you help the animals in Yates County and donate to The Shelter of Hope! We thank you and so do the animals.

Who We Are

We are a group of volunteers and a staff of 3 who are dedicated to helping the animals of Yates County find quality homes. No animal will be destroyed due to the lack of a quality home. We try to put the animals in foster care homes to be socialized and generally to see how they will adjust, but we still need lots of people who are willing to be "Foster Parents". If you would like to find out more about fostering a shelter pet please contact Bonnie Brewer, Shelter of Hope Manager at 315-536-6094, or visit our website and click on the "contact us" tab. With your help we can make Yates County a safe county for the animals.

Adopting a Friend

You can adopt one of our animals by calling the Humane Society of Yates County at 315-536-6094. All our animals will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and tested for feline leukemia or heartworm. They will have current rabies and distemper shots and follow up booster shots. They will also be wormed and have flea control.

Volunteering and Donations

The Humane Society can always use volunteers to help with the care and day to day operations of the shelter and to become foster parents. There are always jobs to be done that don't involve working with animals, such as, lawn mowing and gardening, reception work. We are always in need of maintenance work as well. All hours are available. If you can help please Call 315-536-6094. It is the most rewarding feeling in the world to know that you have helped save an animal!
