Our Attica Shelter now has three cat colony play rooms where some of our feline friends are happily waiting for that special someone to adopt them. Our hope is to create more rooms. One more in our adotion room and some smaller rooms for animals who are on medicine but need the stress free environment of cage free housing. Our dog area is in need of a new ceiling which we estimate to be about $5000 to install. In the future we would like to improve the heating in the dog area to be able to control the temperature separate from the cat area. Our electronic record keeping system is a work in progress. We have trained some key people for data entry and hope to encourage more users. Our fundraising volunteers have been working hard to earn the money we need to give our animals the best medical care. Our money comes solely from the public who support our fundraisers and donate generously to the animals in our care. Thank you so much!
We have many wonderful animals available for adoption. the best way to see them all is to visit our shelter.
Our adoption procedure is very simple. Tell us about yourself, your living arrangement and what kind of pet you wish to adopt. If you rent, we will need written authorization from your landlord for you to have a pet. A veterinarian and 3 references will also be required.
On January 15, 1980 the first meeting of the members and directors of the corporation was held in Warsaw,NY. These members were David Doell,Ralph Snodgrass DVM, Donald Gott,Carol Bruyere, Jacquelyn Russell, Gretchen Allen DVM, and Esther Watson. The incorporator took the following to adopt bylaws, appoint directors and name the principal office in Warsaw,NY. The Society had originally been formed between 1895 and 1905. The only surviving director was Secretary L. Aldrich Cass who resided in Florida. So on October 15, 1979 he resigned for reasons of health and turned the Society over to the new members and directors by Certificate of Appointment.
On March 28, 1984 the name was voted to be changed to Wyoming County SPCA because the ASPCA has no other Branch Offices of the ASPCA. However our service area includes surrounding areas outside Wyoming County and we rely on public support for our funding.
