Who We Are
Hello! We are a small animal shelter and dog training and behavior center located in the Mid- Hudson Valley, about 2 hours north of NYC and an hour south of Albany. We always have about 20 dogs/pups available for adoption. We do an extensive temperament evaluation procedure on each animal, to try to help match you with the most compatible and loving companion. We allow you to "date" before you "commit". In otherwords, we want the match to be wonderful and permanent, and realize that even with extensive temperament testing, we could not expect you to choose a spouse in a 20 minute visit to a shelter! The adoption fee of $250 for dogs, $85 for cats, which is fully refundable within the first 2 weeks of the trial foster period while we help you and receive feedback from you about any problems or kinks that need to be ironed out. The adoption fee will include the dog being spayed/neutered, up to date on all shots according to their age, as well as a free 4 week training coarse.
Adopting a Friend
Our dogs go out fully vetted--vaccinated for Rabies, Distemper, Parvo, Bordetella, and on heartworm prevention, spayed or neuterd. Also included in the adoption. packet is a free 4 week dog training course of your choice: Puppy Kindergarten, Older Puppy, or Beginners Obedience/Manners at our training center. We also offer free behavioral advice for life. We will take back any pet adopted from us, at any time, for any reason, for the lifetime of the pet, no matter what.
Volunteering and Donations
We lose SO much money on every animal, any donations or extras you can offer is greatly appreciated. I often wonder why breeders can get so much money for their "purebreds" when I have better, more unique, more trained, more 'cool' dogs and cats available here, and yet some people balk at a higher adoption fee. Why are purebreds seemingly more valuable? We have plenty of purebreds, too. In a perfect world, people would place more value on the work shelters do for their animals, and be willing to pay more for our wonderful animals.
