Angel Paws Rescue
Angel Paws Rescue was founded in October 2003 in Western NY. This group was formed to help save the thousands of animals put to sleep each day throughout the United States. APR was founded by Alison who began her passion for saving animals by volunteering at a local humane society back in 1996. It was there that she was faced with the reality of euthanasia in animal shelters nationwide. She remembers going in weekly and discussing with the staff which animals were going to be euthanized that week due to lack of space. Often times there were 5-10 dogs and 20-30 cats being euthanized each week. This number is minuscule compared to the hundreds of animals that some animal shelters in our country are euthanizing daily. Today this shelter has a low kill rate meaning only pets who are aggressive, sick, or otherwise deemed un-adoptable are euthanized. Unfortunately, this is not the current situation in many other areas of our state and country. APR was formed to help as many dogs and puppies as possible escape death from these shelters. Since our start in 2003 we have successfully rescued and placed over 450 dogs and puppies into kind, caring, and loving homes. We have relocated our organization and are now located in Mayfield, NY which is approximately 45 minutes North-West of Albany, NY. We have a current need for foster homes to help with the constant flow of dogs needing rescue. The more foster homes we have available, the more dogs/puppies we are able to save from certain death in US Animal Shelters. We have rescued dogs from all over the country, GA, SC, NC, VA, WV, KY, TN, IN, OH, NY, MD, LA, TX and the list is always growing. The more volunteers we have available to help, the more we can save.
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in adopting a new dog our puppy, please contact us. We are always adding new dogs/puppies to our Petfinder site, and there is always a surplus of dogs available at the shelters we work with. If we know what you are looking for we might be able to keep our eyes open for you at the shelters we rescue from.
Our Adoption Process
1.) Complete Adoption Application
2.) Give 3 Personal References
3.) Meet and Greet Visit
4.) Finalize Adoption
It is our policy that all dogs are spayed/neutered prior to going to their new homes. We also make sure that all dogs/puppies are up to date on vaccinations, de-worming, have been tested for heartworm disease and started on heartworm and flea preventative.
We require an adoption donation with all adoptions. This amount is a minimum requirement and extra donations are always appreciated. This donation helps defray the cost of rescuing dogs/puppies from high kill shelters. The costs involved in animal rescue are much higher then one might think. When you include the cost of shelter pull fees, boarding, veterinary care, food, crates, transportation, and administrative costs it really adds up.
Becoming A Foster Home
Our foster homes are the backbone of our rescue organization. Without foster homes we would not be able to do what we do to rescue dogs from high kill shelters. We rely on our foster homes to house, love, and care for all dogs/puppies while they are waiting to be adopted. The number of foster homes directly effects the number of animals we are able to save. If we only have 3 foster homes, and all 3 are full, we are unable to save anymore dogs until one of those 3 foster homes opens up by a dog being adopted. The more foster homes we have, the more lives we can save. APR takes full financial responsibility for all of our foster dogs while they are in your care. We provide all veterinary care, food, crates, collars, leashes, bowls, medications, and any other item that is deemed necessary to provide proper care for your foster dog(s). Come Visit Us!
We are a volunteer run organization and do not have a shelter where we house animals. All of our adoptable pets are currently held in foster homes and can only been seen by pre-approved families by appointment only. The preferred method of communication is email as our volunteers all maintain full time jobs in addition to assisting with rescue and emails can be answered anytime of the day or night. If you see a dog that you are interested in learning more about please email
email@example.com for an application.
