Who We Are

The Capital District Humane Association is the oldest, all volunteer, no-kill, private animal welfare group dedicated to serving the Capital Region of New York State. We are incorporated, approved by the ASPCA of NY and registered as a 501(c)(3) Not For Profit Charity with New York State; therefore all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. We are an all-volunteer rescue group that operates strictly on public support. Therefore, all donations go directly to the care of the animals. Our goal is to find every animal a loving home. We take in animals on a space available basis and keep them an unlimited amount of time until the right home can be found. CDHA has saved hundreds of animals since 1988. We have rescued cats, dogs, horses, pigs, cows, and other animals. Where there is an animal in need, we try to help in some way. Tax-deductible donations are always welcomed and needed. Donations can be sent to Capital District Humane Association, Inc PO Box 11330, Loudonville, NY 12211. Donations may also be made thru the United Way, and State Employees may donate thru SEFA (#50-423).

Adopting a friend

We have many loving dogs and cats available to responsible homes. All animals leave us current on vaccinations and spayed/neutered, with an adoption fee associated with each adoption to help us offset medical expenses. Potential adopters will be asked to fill out an application, as well as provide references.

Helping Animals Find New Homes

If you have an animal that you can no longer care for and need help finding a new home for that pet, CDHA may be able to assist. Although we take in animals of all kinds´┐Żyoung, old, special needs, etc., our primary consideration is whether or not the animal, realistically, is one we can successfully place. Capital District Humane Association receives many calls from people wanting assistance with privately owned, stray, and otherwise needy animals. Since CDHA is a no-kill group with limited resources and space, we have to make difficult decisions regarding how many we can take in at any, one time. We often keep waiting lists of animals in private homes needing alternate placement. Keep in mind that the more time you give us the more likely we will be able to help. If you surrender an animal to CDHA you will be asked to fill out paperwork transferring ownership. The person surrendering that animal must provide proof of ownership. If you are interested in surrendering your dog to CDHA, call Jennifer at (518) 664-3450 .

Come Visit Us!

CDHA does not have a facility; therefore, we do not have visiting hours. We hold Adoption Clinics at PetsMarts in CliftonPark, Latham, and Wilton, NY on Saturdays. Please feel free to call us or visit Calendar of Events for more information about clinic times and for more information on how to adopt a CDHA pet. If you do call, know that your call is very important to us; however, we ask that you be patient. We are all volunteers and may not be able to return your call the same day.
