The Ulster County SPCA is an independent no-kill shelter serving Ulster County. We are not affiliated with any other SPCA and we do not receive funding from Ulster County government. The Ulster County SPCA is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to prevent cruelty to animals by providing temporary shelter and finding adoptive homes for homeless, abused and neglected animals; conducting cruelty investigations; eliminating the crisis of homeless animals by providing low-cost spay/neuter services for cats and by spaying and neutering all animals offered for adoption; providing humane education; and by working to improve laws to end animal cruelty. For more information please visit our website at: www.ucspca.org and also check out our Facebook page!
Every animal that is adopted from the Ulster County SPCA receives innoculations, de-worming and is spayed or neutered before going to their new home. Cats receive a Feline Leukemia/ Feline Aids test and dogs receive a Heartworm/ Lyme/ Ehrlicia test (if they are old enough). Adoption Fees for Cats: $50.00, Kittens (under 6 months): $85.00, Dogs: $175.00 and Puppies (under 1 year): $250.00 The UCSPCA accepts cash and credit cards (NO AMEX OR CHECKS) for the adoption fee. There is a 24 hour hold on all animals. Adopted cats may be picked up the following day, adopted dogs can go home following a home visit by a shelter representative. Animals adopted on Sunday could be picked up on Tuesday as the shelter is closed on Monday. If you are interested in adopting a companion animal you will be required to fill out an adoption application and be interviewed by an adoptions counselor, so please arrive at the shelter at least an hour before closing to allow for this process.
Our on-site spay/neuter clinic opened in December of 1998 offering community resident's low-cost sterilization for cats.
The spay/neuter fee is $65 per stray or pet cat. We also spay/neuter feral cats for $20 which includes a rabies vaccine and an ear clip. Feral cats are wild (not like a stray) and must be brought in a trap. Rabies and other vaccines are available, but require an additional fee and the animal needs to be present for surgery in order to qualify for them.
We offer spay/neuter for dogs as well.
WE DO NOT spay/neuter dogs over 100 lbs.
The following fees include pain medication that the dog is sent home with. The fees listed are for surgeries without any sort of complications. Additional fees are at the discretion of the attending veterinarian. Please be advised we DO NOT offer regular vet checkups or visits in case of illness or injury and we DO NOT vaccinate animals UNLESS we are having a vaccination clinic or they are at the spay/neuter clinic for surgery.
