Adopting A Friend

OARWNY’s policy is to screen applicants for adoption. This includes:

  • potential adopters filling out an application to adopt (applications can be filled out on our website at www.oarwny.org )
  •   obtaining vet references (or personal references if no vet reference is available) *you must call to release info to Open Arms
  • a home visit or home inspection photos
  • a meet-n-greet with you and/or current pets

We strive not only to find approved homes, but to match the home with the dog/pup.  For example, if an applicant is approved and has a cat, but the dog that is applied for is not good with cats, we would not approve that match even if the home is a great home. We want to do everything possible to make sure each adoption is successful, and for the life of the dog/pup.

Effective October 2015:

The adoption fee is $225. If you choose to use one of our participating vets that would include the spay/neuter. If you decide to use your own vet for the spay/neuter then the cost of the procedure is the owner's responsibility and the adoption fee would remain $225. Once the spay/neuter is complete a copy of the certificate must be sent to Open Arms Rescue of WNY.  The adoption fee also includes a 15 pound bag of TLC Premium Dog Food which is the food we feed all of our fosters so you won't have to worry about switching foods. If you continue with TLC you can have the food delivered right to your home and TLC will donate back to OAR with each bag sold. It's a win, win......your dog/puppy will be fed a high quality food, also by using auto ship it's delivered right to your door and you're helping other rescue dogs with your purchase.

Who We Are

Open Arms Rescue of WNY is a small, grass roots type of rescue group. We are comprised of all volunteer, non-paid members who have all been involved in rescue for years. These members include a professional dog trainer, business owners, and loving foster families, all who share a common goal which is simply to save dogs and pups from either locally unwanted situations, or from dog pounds, and place them into loving forever homes. We are a non-profit organization funded solely on donations and fund raising, and we have our Federal 501c3 status as a non-profit organization.

OARWNY is a 100% pro spay/neuter rescue.

Come Visit Us

OARWNY does not have a shelter. All of the animals are fostered in homes with families until a forever home is found. There are fosters from Tonawanda, to Akron, to Rochester, so keep in mind that you may need to travel a bit to meet the dog/pup you are applying for.
