BEFORE YOU CONSIDER ADOPTING A DOODLE...
ADOPTING A DRC DOODLE
To adopt one of our beautiful doodles, complete our application located at the link below.
We do require phone interviews, reference and vet checks and home visits. We take tremendous care with permanent placement of our adoptable doodles and our organization provides ongoing support to our adopters for the entire lifetime of the dog. Adopters are chosen based on compatibility. NOT on a "first come, first serve" basis. Every doodle is an individual and every doodle has his/her own specific needs and requirements. DRC only adopts doodle dogs to families who will keep them as "inside pets." We do not adopt rescue doodles to first time dog owners or families with children under 10 years of age. In most cases a PHYSICAL FENCE is required.

Our adoption donations range from $200 - $500 and vary according to the age, health and temperament of each dog.
WHY THERE IS SUCH AN OVERWHELMING AND COMPELLING NEED FOR "DOODLE" RESCUE
Since the introduction of the Australian Labradoodle to the US some 18 years ago, there has been and continues to be, an overwhelming amount of media hype, "breeder" propaganda, certifiable myths and outright lies circulating about these wonderful poodle-mixed dogs. So much so, that public demand for the quintessential non-shedding, family dog has resulted in the creation of "Doodlemania" and the ensuing doodle breeding frenzy we see today throughout North America. Not since Walt Disney featured the "cocker spaniel" in 1955's "Lady and the Tramp" and the "dalmatian" in 1962's "101 Dalmatians" has any breed or breed mix of dog been as mercilessly over-bred, shamelessly misrepresented and mass-marketed to the naive public as the Labradoodle and the Goldendoodle (doodle) dogs.
Although marketed as the "be all and end all" of "non-shedding, hypo-allergenic," perfect family pets, nothing could be further from the truth.
DOODLES SHED - So do humans and most other living creatures with "hair."
DOODLES ARE NOT "HYPO-ALLERGENIC - THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "HYPO-ALLERGENIC" DOG.
MOST DOODLES ARE NOT GOOD WITH SMALL CHILDREN - for a multitude of reasons.
DOODLES ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE
Doodles are very unique, highly intelligent, emotional and yes, high-maintenance dogs that require the special attention, care and the serious commitment of an experienced dog owner. More so in fact, than any other breed or breed mix of dog. Consequently, they should not be adopted by or to first time dog families, families with small children or those not experienced with the complex needs of highly intelligent, med to large, high energy, high maintenance, sporting dogs that have extensive grooming and exercise requirements.
Most people will conduct research and educate themselves to the best of their abilities when they are about to have a baby.
We STRONGLY suggest that doodle adoption and pet adoption in general be approached in exactly the same manner.
...or ANY companion animal, it is critical that you first develop a complete understanding of that animal, and/or the "breed" or combination of breeds associated with any particular dog you are interested in adding to your family. Researching information will only serve to educate and prepare you to make an appropriate decision when it comes to choosing a pet that will ultimately become part of your family for the duration of that animals life.
