The Hudson County Animal League

Our Pet List

Who We Are...

  • Concerned animal lovers who formed the League in 1993 because of a lack of a humane animal shelter in Jersey City at that time.
  • An all volunteer and publicly supported group.
  • A New Jersey State Department of Health Approved Agency.
  • A Non-Profit Corporation. All donations are tax- deductible.

    We have beautiful cats and dogs waiting to be adopted. If we do not have what you are looking for, please go visit your local shelter, the Liberty Animal Shelter at 235 Jerey City Boulevard in Jersey City (opposite the parking lot for the Liberty Science Center, and save a life.

  • Promote and subsidize spay/neuter of cats & dogs.
  • Rescue abandoned cats & dogs.
  • Trap, spay and release feral cats who have people feeding them.
  • Adopt cats and dogs into lifetime loving homes. We feature a cat or dog available for adoption in the "Jersey Journal" and the "Bayonne Community News."
  • Provide information and referrals for dog and cat care.
  • Participate in local fairs, events and flea markets.
  • Lecture to school and community groups about caring for a cat or dog for life.

    * Donate Time *

    We always need people to help at community events; to work on fundraisers; to help write grant proposals; to help with mailings; to answer questions that come in on the phone line; to reach out to community groups; to screen potential adopters; to transport animals to veterinarians and adoption events, and to build outdoor feral cat shelters.

    * Donate Love *

    WE ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF FOSTER HOMES. Foster a cat or dog in need. The League will pay all expenses up until adoption. You provide food and loving care.

    * Donate Materials *

    We need food, carriers, traps, blankets, towels, office supplies.

    * Donate Money *

    All donations are tax deductible and go directly to care for animals in need.

    * Meetings *

    Meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of the month (no April, August or December meetings) at First Federated Church, 33rd Street & Avenue C, Bayonne at 7:00 p.m. and on the 3rd Wednesday of the month (except August and December) at the Pershing Field Community Center in Pershing Field Park, Jersey City Heights at 7:30 p.m. Come and meet other concerned animal lovers and help save lives.
