Dachshund Rescue of North America - Northeast

If you are visiting our site to add a new family member, please see How to Adopt below.
Be sure to look at all the sweet doxies in need of a new home on our Pet List or our Available Dogs page at our national website, www.DRNA.org.

We do not have a shelter facility.
All of our dogs reside in foster homes around the country.
Please check the individual listings to see which state the dog is located in.
We do assist in transporting dogs to approved homes.

Who We Are

Dachshund Rescue of North America, Inc.is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, all volunteer organization with the purpose of rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing needy dachshunds and dachshund mixes.
We are a network of experienced rescue people who were previously doing rescue independently and realized the benefits of joining together and combining resources.
We think there IS a home somewhere for every dog we foster; some just take longer to find.
Most dogs spend at least a short time in foster care so we can evaluate their behaviors in a home setting.
We can give potential adopters information on how the dog may interact with cats, children, men, women, other dogs, and so on. These are vital components to a good match.
We also try to improve potty training skills if they are not already house trained.
Our foster homes provide good nutrition and an understanding lap to prepare our dachshunds for life in a world where fear and starvation are non-existent.

How to Adopt

The first step in any adoption is to complete an Adoption Application.
It will be forwarded to the representative specified on the application - either the one fostering the specific dog you are interested in or the closest one to you geographically.
We encourage you to complete an Adoption Application even if you don't see a dog matching your preferences currently listed on the web page.
Many dogs come into DRNA and are placed with applicants on a waiting list before they are even listed online.
Your vet and personal references will be verified and a home visit scheduled.
Once all of that is satisfactorily completed, we move into the adoption phase.

Questions About the Dogs

The DRNA foster home tries to identify how compatible our rescue dogs are with men, women, children, cats, other dogs, etc.
Sometimes dogs will act differently in new environments but we make every effort to be accurate.
If you have a specific question regarding the dog's behavior or likes and dislikes, you may wish to contact the name listed in the dogs info on his/her Petfinder page or under the photo on our Available Dogs page at www.DRNA.org because that person would know best how to answer your question.
