Garden State German Shepherd Rescue is in desperate need of foster homes!
Please consider opening your heart and home to a foster dog. GSGSR pays all expenses for the foster dogs.
For more information about becoming a GSGSR foster home, see our volunteer page on the Garden State German Shepherd Rescue website.
Who We Are
Garden State German Shepherd Rescue is a 501(c)(3) rescue organization with volunteers throughout New Jersey who are committed to rescuing and rehoming German Shepherds. Please visit our website www.gsgsr.org for more information about our organization.
Adopting a friend
Before any German Shepherds can come into our rescue, they are first temperament tested. Those that pass, are seen by a veterinarian and are brought up to date on all vaccinations. They are checked for internal parasites and heartworms and are spayed or neutered. They will then be placed with volunteers in our foster homes for evaluation in a home environment for a minimum of 3 weeks. This allows us time to get to know the Shepherd so that we can make the best match with their new home.
Potential adoptive homes who live in New Jersey need to first carefully read our Adoption Process page which also contains information about our Adoption Requirements. If you meet our requirements and agree to the process, complete our Adoption Application and submit the $10.00 non-refundable fee. We require 3 personal references plus a Veterinarian reference. Once the reference checks are completed, a volunteer will contact you for a phone interview, during which we get to know you and your family so we can make a good match for your home. Finally, a home visit will be done by a GSGSR volunteer.
When a match is made, the new guardian will sign a contract stating that they are responsible for the dog, and will provide adequate care.
Adoption Fee amounts are:
$350.00 for puppies to 1 year old.
$300.00 for a dog 1 to 6 years old.
$150.00 for a dog 7 years old and up.
A refundable spay/neuter deposit of $100.00 may be required for puppies under 6 months old or for Owner Referral dogs.
Once you adopt a dog from us, we will remain in contact with you to assist you in the initial adjustment period. During this time, a home visit may be scheduled at an agreed upon time to see how your new German Shepherd has settled into its new home and to identify any problems that may exist.
If you would like to help us help more German Shepherds, we are always in need of additional volunteers.
We especially need Foster Home volunteers as they are the link between a dog's past and his future. Foster homes are individuals or families who open their hearts and their home to provide a safe and loving environment for these dogs until a permanent home can be found.
If you love dogs, fostering is one of the most satisfying and rewarding experiences you can have as it enables you to directly impact a homeless dog's life. If you are interested learning more about becoming a foster home for a GSGSR dog, please see our Foster Volunteer FAQ page.
If you can't foster a dog, there are still many ways you can help. Can you spend a few hours once a month staffing a 'meet & greet' event or a fundraiser? Or a couple of hours on a weekend to make a home visit to a prospective adopter or to visit a shelter? A couple of hours in the evening to make reference calls? Do you like to bake or make crafts that we could sell at fund raising events? Please complete our volunteer application.
We will be pleased to have you, whatever you can offer to our group!
Other ways to help us help the dogs
Donations are always gratefully accepted. The adoption fees that we collect help to defray our expenses for veterinary care, including the required spay/neuter, but do not cover the amount spent on each dog. Our income is derived from adoption fees, private donations and fund raising activities; all of which goes to care for the dogs. See our Donations page for ways you can help.
Please shop our affiliates through our secured Shopping page. We now have our own shop on Cafepress. with many items featuring dogs who have been adopted through GSGSR. All profits from the sale of this merchandise go towards caring for the dogs.
