Who We Are
Homeward Animal Shelter (formerly Humane Society Fargo-Moorhead) is a local and community-funded, non-profit animal shelter. Its mission is: 'Rescue. Shelter. Protect. Rehome.'. It provides a second chance at happiness to lost, abandoned and owner-surrendered animals and educates the community in the proper, loving and kind treatment of animals. Homeward Animal Shelter is committed to preventing animal overpopulation and spays/neuters all animals 6 months or older before adoption. Over the past 48 years, Homeward Animal Shelter has placed over 25,000 animals in lifelong homes. To find out how you can support Homeward Animal Shelter, please visit http://www.homewardonline.org.
Adopting a friend
The majority of our animals over 4 months of age have been spayed/neutered prior to adoption. However, if an animal is not sterilized prior to adoption due to their age, it will become the adopter's responsibility to ensure that that is done. Once we have received proof that an adopter has sterilized the pet, $75 (for dogs) or $40 (for cats) of the adoption fee will be refunded after the spay/neuter is done.
Puppies and kittens under 4 months of age have NOT been given their rabies vaccination. Any animal over 8 weeks old has been given their first series of vaccinations. All booster vaccinations are the responsibility of the adoptor.
Adoption fees also include de-worming and parasite check or treatment for all animals. All of our cats and dogs available for adoption are microchipped also.
All of our cats and kittens are tested for FeLV/FIV and all dogs 6 months and older are tested for heartworm.
