Shelter Services

Humane Society of Catawba County is pleased to offer our Well-Pet Vaccine Clinic twice a month. See our website for prices. If you would like to make an appointment, call 828-464-8878. Part of HSCC's facility is the Foothills Spay/Neuter Clinic. We offer spay/neuter services at low-cost for the public. Visit our website or call for detailed prices and more information. We are continuing to add new programs and enhance our adoption program at all times. Volunteers are always needed to help with walking adopters through the shelter, routine maintenance of our temporary facility, walking dogs (every dog, every day!), socializing cats (we love our Cat Cuddlers!) and office chores. If you would like to help, come on down! All volunteers are required to complete a volunteer orientation for the safety of our animals. Dog walkers will be taught basic obedience skills to enhance the possibility of adoption of our dogs. We are also seeking foster homes for litters of kittens and puppies that are abandoned at the local pound.

Who We Are

Humane Society of Catawba County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the general welfare of animals and operates solely on donations. We do not receive federal, state or local government funding, United Way donations, or funding from HSUS. HSCC strives to achieve our mission of making our community a better place for people and animals by: sheltering animals and adopting them into caring, responsible homes; providing humane education and community information services; endeavoring to reduce animal overpopulation; serving as an advocate for animals and promoting humane standards; enhancing the relationship between animals and people and fostering a respect for all life through compassionate actions.

We rescue most of our animals from the nearby county animal shelter, which must euthanize after 5 days due to constant overcrowding. HSCC IS A NO-KILL SHELTER. The animals you see on our pet list will live with us until they are adopted. When we have space, we can take in animals from the public with a suggested $50 owner surrender donation (more if you can!) to help cover their costs.

We have 2 locations: Main shelter is located in Hickory, North Carolina near Hwy 70 and Fairgrove Church Road. Our hours are Monday - Saturday 11:00-6:00. Our second shelter is in Newton NC at 201 Government Services Drive off Radio Station Rd and in the same building as Catawba County Animal Services. Our hours at Newton are Monday - Friday 11:00-6:00 and Saturdays 10:00-3:00.

Volunteering and Donations

The Humane Society of Catawba County is always looking for reliable volunteers to help with our sweet fur-babies. Our dogs need walking twice a day, our kitties need socializing and we can always use help with general cleaning and maintenance. All volunteers are welcome; we request that you contact our Volunteer Manager for more info! You must be at least 16 years old to volunteer. If you have children between the ages of 10 and 15, they can volunteer with a parent or guardian. See our website for more about our VIP (Volunteer in Pairs) program.
