The Bladen County Animal Shelter is located in Elizabethtown, North Carolina,
next to the Powell-Melvin Ag Service Center
30 miles southeast of Fayetteville and 45 miles northwest of Wilmington,
or about two hours from Raleigh.
You are invited to stop by for a visit, and to adopt a four-legged friend!

The shelter is open to the public for all animal-related services during the following hours:

Adoptions: Monday - Friday
12:00 – 5:00 pm

Animal Pickup: Monday - Friday
8:30 – 5:00 pm

Animal Drop-Off: Monday - Friday
8:30 – 5:00 pm

Saturday and Sunday Closed

Emergency service hours:
The shelter responds to animal emergencies during non-business hours.
Any situation in which a domestic or wild animal is creating a danger to the public is considered an emergency.
Call 911 for all emergency calls and they will contact the Animal Control Officer on-call.


In an effort toward disease prevention, Bladen County Animal Control now gives Core Vaccinations to all pets on intake.
The Adoption Fees include Rabies Vaccination and First Core Vaccination and are as follows:
dogs $50
cats $40
Micro-chipping is available and strongly recommended for adopted dogs and cats at only $15.

You, as the adopter or rescue organization, are responsible for any and all veterinary work given.
No health or temperament guarantees are given or implied.

This shelter has changed its policy on working with rescues, and currently is limiting the days which rescues can pull.

501(c)3 rescue organizations will pay the following for animals released to their care:
Dogs $25/ Cats $15 for the Rabies Vaccination and First Core Vaccination given at the shelter.
Dogs $15/ Cats $5 only First Core Vaccination given at the shelter.
Micro-chipping is available and strongly recommended for dogs and cats at only $15.

A rescue can always adopt during normal business hours by paying the Adoption Fees posted above.
