For the health and safety of our cats, we strongly urge adopters to keep them as "indoor-only" cats. For the health and safety of our dogs, we strongly urge adopters to keep them as "indoor" as much as possible. "Indoor/outdoor" dogs must be kept in a secured area when outside and NEVER chained. No animals adopted from Watauga Humane Society can be kept strictly outdoors. The shelter requires references for all long-distance adoptions. We encourage all adopters to visit the animals before making the 15+ year commitment of adopting a cat or dog. Our first responsibility is always to our beloved animals
Featured Pet of the Week at MTN Television
In January 2005, MTN Television started featuring a Watauga Humane Society pet each week on its morning broadcast, which airs from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., Wednesdays and Fridays. This television spot has resulted in several adoptions!
We would like to thank Bill Fisher and Tim Baxter at MTN for coming to us with this wonderful idea, and for providing our community with this public service. Watauga Humane Society looks forward to working with MTN for many years to come!
MTN is on channel 18 on cable, or channel 24 with an antenna.
Our Dog Park first opened to the public on Saturday, April 8th, 2006, and it is a huge success! It is open every day from 6 a.m. to sundown. The Dog Park is located along Don Hayes Road, between Rutherwood Baptist Church and the Boone Stockyard, about four miles from Boone off Old Highway 421 South.
The dog park consists of approximately 3.5 acres of fenced land for dogs to romp and play. There is a smaller section, about 1/2 acre, for smaller dogs.
Visit on a sunny Saturday afternoon and you might find a couple dozen dogs and their owners enjoying the Park. for more information click the link below.
