Our Pet List

Who We Are

Since 1969 the Watauga Humane Society when community members established the Watauga Humane Society, we have reduced animal suffering and positively impacted lives. Watauga County is a community that cares about homeless, abused and neglected animals and believes that they should receive quality care and love and support. Watauga Humane Society is here to help. Our primary adoption center houses 95 dogs, 120 to 150 cats, and up to 20 small animals. Through research, teaching, partnerships and proper population management, WHS intends to provide a community where all animals can be treated humanely and with love and respect.

Featured Pet of the Week at MTN Television

In January 2005, MTN Television started featuring a Watauga Humane Society pet each week on its morning broadcast, which airs from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., Wednesdays and Fridays. This television spot has resulted in several adoptions!

We would like to thank Bill Fisher and Tim Baxter at MTN for coming to us with this wonderful idea, and for providing our community with this public service. Watauga Humane Society looks forward to working with MTN for many years to come!

MTN is on channel 18 on cable, or channel 24 with an antenna.

Our Dog Park first opened to the public on Saturday, April 8th, 2006, and it is a huge success! It is open every day from 6 a.m. to sundown. The Dog Park is located along Don Hayes Road, between Rutherwood Baptist Church and the Boone Stockyard, about four miles from Boone off Old Highway 421 South.

The dog park consists of approximately 3.5 acres of fenced land for dogs to romp and play. There is a smaller section, about 1/2 acre, for smaller dogs.

Visit on a sunny Saturday afternoon and you might find a couple dozen dogs and their owners enjoying the Park. for more information click the link below.
