  • Cherokee

Cherokee was seized by the Warren County Sheriffs Office and the Vicksburg Warren Humane Society on February 12, 2009 .Cherokee had surgery at MS state University to speed the recovery of her leg in June of 2009- We intended to place Cherokee where no harm would ever would be inflicted again and in November of 2009 the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch -Sanctuary in Texas accepted her. Plans were to transport her during Spring of 2010 - her leg reinffected in lte April and she was taken to Dixie Equine where Dr.Donnie Vice x-rayed her leg and found ridges and crevices deep within her bone . According to Dr.Vice this infection will reoccur from time to time as long as it is detected quickly she will be fine - Since the Black Beauty Ranch has over 300 acres and their horses free roam the ranch was concerned about her leg reinfecting and it not being caught in time so she was no longer a candidate. Now she lives at the shelter- She is our base horse so when we seize new starving neglected horses they are not alone. She has become the shelter mascot and has her own show which we call the Cherokee show .

  • We are having an unbelievable number of newborn kittens brought into the shelter. Before you assume a newborn kitten is abandoned, make sure there is no sign of a mother cat. Healthy looking kittens probably have a mom somewhere near by, but she won't show herself with you still there. Kittens that have a mom have a far better chance than those who are bottlefed.

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal and I was angry. "God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?" God was silent for a moment and then spoke softly, "I have done something," was the reply, "I created you."
