Who We Are

"PALS" was founded in 1989, in Winfield, Lincoln County, Missouri, as an all volunteer, non-profit, animal rescue organization. We are an IRS certified charity, licensed by the state of Missouri. Lincoln County, still being a mostly rural area, has become a "dumping ground" for unwanted pets from nearby urban counties; and PALS was formed to help rescue these unfortunate pets.

We are essentially a "no-kill" organization, and will only euthanize an animal if it is incorrigibly vicious, or if it is suffering from a terminal, non-curable disease or wound. Other than for these reasons, a pet will have a caring home with PALS for life, or until it is adopted.

Our basic goal is to find good homes for stray or abandoned pets. We are strong advocates of spaying and neutering!

If you want to sign up as a PALS volunteer or preview the animals at the shelter, we are open every weekday 8:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m to 12:00 a.m. We do maintain a 24 hour a day telephone line, and will return your call ASAP, to assist anyone in need, make referrals to other sources of aid, assist owners in finding lost pets, and help potential adopters find pets.

We give "top" priority to injured, starving and stray animals in distress. We will maintain a waiting list for owner turn-in animals, and accept them whenever space in our limited system is available. We assist any breed of dog or cat, however we try especially hard to help the numerous, homeless, mixed breed pets.
We do foster and adopt out cats kittens, dogs and puppies! Shelter hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 Noon. If there is a particular animal that you are seriously interested in and would like to view and interact with, you can call the shelter and make a special appointment .

Adopting a Friend

Our adoption fee for dogs is $150.00 and cats is $110.00, regardless of whether the pet is a pure breed or a mixed breed. All of our pets are Vet checked for health, spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, wormed, and up-to-date on all vaccinations. Dogs are tested for heartworm, and treated if necessary, and placed on preventative. Cats are tested for Feline Leukemia. All injured pets receive any treatment or surgery needed to restore them back to good health! We believe this is a bargain price for a pet; and that if you check the costs of these services with your Vet, and add them to the cost of a pet from a breeder, you too will agree! To adopt a pet from PALS, or to find more information on one of our pets, visit us at our adoption event, write us, or call us on the PALS Line at 636-338-1818. We do ask potential adopters to first complete a pre-adoption form, for the purpose of ensuring your compatibility with a pet, as well as your eligibility to own a pet. After the pre-adoption form is reviewed and approved, we require adopters to complete an adoption contract. We do not discriminate against anyone for reasons of race, religion, age, politics, gender, or sexual orientation; but reserve the right to refuse adoptions based on the information we interpret from these forms, with regard to legalities, and the pet's needs or requirements. We try very hard to make every adoption, a happy and satisfactory one! If contacting us about a pet you are interested in, please state the Pet's Name and ID#. Thanks!

Bring Your Pet To An Adoption!

If you are considering adopting a pet as a companion for your pet, very often it's a good idea to bring your pet along. By doing so, you'll be able to better judge how the two pets interact, and maybe eliminate unforeseen problems and poor choices! Pets on leashes are always welcome at our adoption events. Your pet will love the outing, the quality time spent with you, and a chance to socialize with other pets! This is also a good way to re-enforce good social behavior in public, in your pet!
Volunteering

As a volunteer organization, we are always in need of more active members and volunteers; whether it is to help by fostering a pet, assisting at adoption events by walking dogs, transporting pets to and from these events, computer work, pet photography, assisting in writing our newsletter, making arts & crafts for fundraising, participating in our regular bake sales, fish fry's, or in any other project or fund-raiser we are involved in. Contact us and let us know how you would like to help, or if you would like to become a member of PALS!

Donations:

At the present time, we have acquired property and a building which we are trying to pay for, and renovate into a "permanent" Animal Shelter. All of our operating expenses, food, and supplies come from donations and fundraising activities. All donations go first to the care and welfare of our pets, and if any funds remain, they are applied to further our shelter project efforts. We are always in need of donations of cat litter, blankets, rugs, carpet samplers, chew bones, pet toys, outside kennels, paper towels, and cleaning supplies. If you would like to help us save even more pets, by donating to PALS, please contact us! Since we are a certified charity your donation is tax deductable to the extent allowed by law. Any donation is much needed and greatly appreciated.
