Crestwood Animal Shelter's "Friends" Step Up to Help Homeless Pets

Who We Are...

Crestwood, Missouri (February 14, 2014)
In October, 2013 the administration in the City of Crestwood chose to dissolve the city's animal control position and with it, the shelter located in Whitecliff Park off of Pardee Road. This decision takes effect on January 1, 2014. With the shelter closed, the 2 dogs and 27 cats currently residing at the shelter would be transferred to St. Louis County Animal Care & Control, a much larger animal shelter in Olivette, Missouri. Many shelter pets do not adjust well to large shelters due to noise level, and larger shelters must employ strict guidelines to control their population. This means time limits for pets up for adoption, and less leniency for pets with special needs. Thankfully, the Friends of Animal Control and Rescue (FOACAR) have taken over the former Crestwood Animal Shelter. Current animal residents have not to be transferred, or moved to another building. The City of Crestwood would hold no financial responsibility for the animal shelter. Additionally, by the Crestwood Animal Shelter separating itself from the city of Crestwood, the shelter will be available to many more residents going forward. Friends of Animal Control & Rescue is a 501c3 charity, with donations being tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.

Adopting a friend...

Animals are vaccinated, checked and treated for parasites and viruses, and spayed or neutered, if necessary. Adopters are expected to reimburse Friends of Animal Control and Rescue (FOACAR) for these costs.

Adopters must sign an adoption contract releasing FOACAR from any post-adoption responsibility. FOACAR does not knowingly adopt any animals with aggressive tendencies.
