Everything You Need To Know To Find Your New Best Friend JHS strives to match people with animals that fit their lifestyles. We take our mission to care for these animals very seriously, and that includes taking the time to find loving and responsible homes. We offer a wide selection of cats, dogs, puppies & kittens. If you don't see the pet you're looking for, we encourage you to continue to check regularly with all animal shelters and rescues.
Due to the number of animals that we receive and find homes for every day, we can not guarantee that specific animals listed on our site will be available when you visit. We are also unable to hold animals via phone, fax, or email. The best way to find a new furry companion is by visiting us in person...after all, you might be about to meet your new best friend!
How Does the Adoption Process Work? We believe in an open, non-judgmental adoption process. We recognize that no one is perfect and try to match a person's pet expectations so fewer pets are returned. Under normal conditions the process is:
The standard adoption fee is $90 for adult animals. Puppies less than 4 months of age are $105 and HERO PETS are $130.
This includes the animals spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations including rabies and de-worming.
All adopted pets are microchipped. Microchips help us reunite lost pets with their owners and insure that if lost, your pet will get home to you. You can print you Dog Adoption Application or Cat Adoption Application and bring it with you to the shelter! You can also fax the application to us at $17-623-5343 or copy/paste and e-mail it to firstname.lastname@example.org.

We will not adopt a pet to anyone under the age of 18
We will not adopt to anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol
We reserve the right to decline any adoption based on the information provided, lack of information, inability to reach references, refusal by applicant to complete required pet/family meets, or if we feel the pet is not a match for the person's lifestyle.
No pets may leave the shelter until they are altered and have received their rabies vaccine. If you are traveling from a distance, we strongly advise calling to be sure the pet you are traveling to adopt is available and ready to leave.
We generally do not "hold"pets that are available to leave. Please understand that no animal can be help for any reason without an approved application. If you are traveling from a distance and wish to have the pet held until you arrive, you must fill out and return the application, and confirm that your application has been approved. Applications can be e-mailed or faxed back to us for approval.
We generally only adopt one pet per adoptive family. Exceptions may be made for pets that came in as a pair, littermates (if approved for littermates) or special, unique circumstances. Under no circumstance will more than two pets be adopted at the same time.
JHS does reduce or waive adoption fees for a variety of reasons: Too many cats or kittens in the building, older and special needs pets that have a harder time finding homes, etc. Adoption Promotions are a fun way to engage the public and bring in potential adopters. Shelters remain the #4 way people obtain their pets.
