Who We Are

Mission and Goals

The purpose of the Winona Area Humane Society is to prevent cruelty to animals, to relieve the suffering of animals and to provide humane education throughout Winona County. It is the policy of the Society to provide humane care and treatment for animals needing protection in the area served by the Society; to seek to return lost animals to their owners; to seek suitable homes for animals without owners. In its care and disposition of animals, the Society shall maintain the minimum standards prescribed by the Humane Society of the United States.

We are a non-profit organization and rely on donations and fees to provide for the care of animals and shelter operating costs. Some limited funding is received from Winona County, area cities, and area townships. We provide the following services:
1. Boarding and medical care for abandoned and stray animals.
2. Advertising of stray cats and dogs received by the Society.
3. Spaying and neutering of animals in our care.
4. Placement of stray and abandoned animals needing new homes.
5. Boarding and placement of adoptable animals in the event the owner is incapacitated and is unable to continue to care for them.
6. Spay/neuter assistance for individuals who care for a feral cat colony.
