Our Featured Pet...

Meet Cherish!

Cherish is a beautiful dog, both inside and out. She LOVES other dogs and would prefer a four legged companion in her forever home to help show her the ropes. Cherish is cautious about new people and adventures, so needs a home that is patient and willing to help her work through her fears. She really wants to explore, but just takes some time to gain confidence in new situations. She is learning to be brave on walks, but is fearful of many sounds of city life, so a fenced in yard would be ideal. Once she's bonded with a person, she is very affectionate and loves to give kisses. Cherish is housebroken and has free roam of the house when her foster is away. Cherish is a fantastic dog with a big heart and deserves the best forever home. Cherish is estimated to be 2 years old and weighs about 50 pounds.

Since we don't know at all what doggy genes are in the dogs make up (we don't know who mom and dad are!), we are just guessing on breed. All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They have all had a vet exam, are up to date on vaccinations, have been given a dewormer, are treated for fleas, have a heartworm test if over 6 months old and are up to date on a heartworm preventative.

Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis. If you are interested in meeting this pet please fill out the Pre-Adoption Application

Who We Are

Safe Hands Animal Rescue is dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters. We are now incorporated and are preparing our 501(c)3 application. Of great importance to us is to reduce the stray population and need for healthy animal euthanasia through spay/neuter programs, education, and promotion of respect for the furry creatures that share our lives.

We are a small, volunteer run organization. All of our dogs listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the dogs' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. We do not have a physical shelter. This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We have a great need for foster homes. If you are interested in providing foster care, and live within an hour of the Twin Cities, please Complete a Foster Application

Donations ALWAYS needed are: dog toys, (especially Kongs and Nylabones of all sizes) puppy pee pads, Nutrisource brand puppy and dog food, Lysol disinfecting wipes, paper towels, large clean towels, dog crates, leashes, collars, especially very small puppy collars and gas cards to help with our transports.

Our Adoption Process

We only adopt out animals to homes within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. Our adoption process begins with the completion of a Pre-Adoption Application. Upon approval of your application, a meeting is scheduled between you and the pup. sometimes in the fosters home, a neutral dog friendly place or at our Meet & Greet events held twice a month. It is recommended that any resident dogs, cats or other pets that will interact with the pup meet at this time. After the meeting a home visit is scheduled and if everything goes well with the visit the adoption is finalized at that time. A home visit conducted by a Safe Hands representative is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pup will be living. We reserve the right to refuse any applicant for any reason.

Adoption fees vary and cover the cost vet exam(s), spay/neuter, and age appropriate vaccinations. We feel strongly that spay/neuter is the only answer to reducing animal overpopulation. No adoptions are finalized until after spay/neuter. NO exceptions. If you're interested in one of our great pups please fill out our Pre-Adoption Application
