Become a Foster and Save a Life

Our fosters help to save the lives of cats and dogs that would otherwise be euthanized, for no other reason than just being born! The more foster homes we have, the more we can rescue off of death row at impounds, plus abandoned, sick, and injured pets.

Last Hope will provide you with the training and supplies as needed. You simply Contact our Administrative Office at 651-463-8747 to apply and complete a Volunteer Foster Agreement. Once approved by one of our cat or dog coordinators, you will pick the animal(s) up from one of our local veterinaries office and take them home, love and care for them, and then bring them to one of our weekly Saturday adoption events that are held at Petco in Apple Valley, MN or Burnsville,MN

Enjoy meeting new people, making new friends, and knowing that you are a part of saving these abandoned and homeless dogs and cats.

Questions and Answers

A list of commonly asked questions from our adopters and potential adopters and the answers to them. Have a question for us? Go to the Contact Us page to ask us your question!

How does Last Hope arrive at its adoption fees.? Our adoption fees help to pay for the many costs of caring for dogs and cats while under foster care, including but not limited to, food, equipment and full veterinary care for them before they are adopted into their forever homes. The adoption fee also includes Minnesota state sales tax due from the adoptee family. Veterinary costs absorbed by Last Hope for dogs and cats include but are not limited to: Veterinary exams, lab tests, vaccinations, heartworm/lymes tests, bordatella vaccines, rabies shot, de-worming, spay and neuter fees, medications, antibiotics, dental and eye procedures, x-rays and surgical procedures. Other characteristics such as breed, and age are also considerations in arriving at the adoption fee.

Where do you get your dogs and cats from? We get our dogs and cats from owner surrenders (such as: death of owner, family life changes, allergy issues, relocation and landlord issues etc.). We rescue dogs and cats that are unclaimed from the local impounds when the dogs and cats are strays or owners do not claim them or refuse to pay the impound fee and fines. We rescue primarily within Dakota County Minnesota, as well as the 7 county metro area surrounding Minneapolis - St. Paul, Minnesota and several bordering counties in Wisconsin. We also assist other Minnesota rescues when we have extra capacity in our foster homes. We also assist several out of state rescues when our foster homes have extra capacity.
