All cats and dogs in the city of Hazel Park that are 4 months and older MUST be registered with the city.... IT IS THE LAW! Current rabies vaccine is REQUIRED to get a license. Licenses for spayed/neutered pets cost $8 for 1 year, $12 for 2 years and $16 for 3 year licenses. Intact animal licenses are 1 year only at $20 a year. You can get them at the city clerks office, second floor of City Hall. Remember that there is a 3 animal per household limit! If you don't live in Hazel Park, be advised that all dogs are required to be up to date on rabies and licensed with the city, township, or county they live in, it is state law! The rabies tag from your vet is not your license.
There is no pull fee for our rescue partners. The price of adoption varies on the rescue, and the amount of vet work that has gone into the animal. Generally adoption fees range from $125-$250. At adoption all animals are spayed/neutered, UTD on rabies, distemper, heartworm or FIV/FeLV checked. Some rescues include fecal tests and microchips. If you would like to adopt any of the available animals you see here, you can start the process by filling out an application through PAAW, who handles adoptions and does so much to find homes for pets, here. You can also apply to foster an animal in your home while rescues seek a forever home. When necessary our animal control facility can do a direct adoption. Please call (248) 546-4096.
We are a municipal facility that is run by the city's animal control officer. The animals that come into animal control facility are either strays, abandoned, seized from owners for improper care, or surrendered by the owner. We rely on no kill rescues after the 4 day stray hold to take animals from our animal control facility and put them in private foster homes for care while rescue works to get them adopted. Without rescues we would not be able to place nearly as many animals into wonderful homes as we are currently able to.
Volunteers are needed! If you would like to volunteer please contact email@example.com or call the shelter at (248) 546-4096 to get further info. Volunteers needed any mornings from 8:30 am to about 10 am, and any evenings from 6:30 pm to about 7:30 pm or so (walk dogs, clean cages). Volunteer applications are at the animal control facility or at the city clerks office.
