Our mission statement is "To promote animal welfare through education, enforcement, housing, and adoptions." As a department, we strive to achieve compliance with state law and local ordinance.

Who We Are

This shelter is a county organization which operates 100% on revenues raised at the shelter. This revenue comes from many sources, including licensing fees, adoption fees, return to owner fees, and fines levied in court for ordinance violations. Our shelter investigates animal complaints, cruelty complaints, and general nuisance complaints. Other services include impoundment of stray animals and adoptions.

Adopting a friend

We have some great animals up for adoption. These animals include dogs, cats, ferrets, and livestock. In 2015 the live release rate is 89% with many successful adoptions! There is a cost to adopt the animals and those costs are as follows if the animal is not altered: Dogs are $100 which includes a $50 refundable spay/neuter deposit. Puppies are $110 which includes a $50 refundable spay/neuter deposit. Cats/kittens are $70 which includes a $50 refundable spay/neuter deposit. Please note: If more then one person arrives at the same time to adopt the same animal, animal control staff will perform a bid process. If the animals are already already altered: Dogs are $50. Puppies are $60. Cats/Kittens are $20. Michigan Law requires a spay/neutering deposit on all animals sold from the shelter. This a $50.00 fee, refundable upon having the animal sexually altered by a licensed veterinarian. For information on fees for other animals, please contact the shelter at 810-667-0236 or you can email Lapeer's Adoptable Animals at LapeersAdoptables@yahoo.com. Lapeer's Adoptable Animals does courtesy postings and networks the animals at Lapeer Animal Control. LAA is a charity non-profit 501c(3) organization that is volunteer based and supports LCAC.
