Our Pet List

Who We Are

The Alcona Humane Society is organized for the non-profitable purpose of preventing cruelty to animals, including activities that further such purpose, such as finding good homes for homeless animals, returning lost animals to their owners, educating people about the humane treatment of animals, reducing companion animal overpopulation, and relieving animal suffering. We are a private humane society that takes in the stray and unwanted animals of Alcona County. We are a small group of people who are committed to providing love, safety, security, and great care to every animal in our shelter. It is our goal to promote education to the public on the importance of spaying and neutering in order to prevent unwanted animals. We depend on the generosity of the community in order to keep our doors open. We are a private non-profit 501(c)(3) shelter and donations are greatly appreciated. We are strongly committed to finding responsible loving forever homes for our dear animals.

Adopting a friend

All of our animals are available for adoption to qualified responsible pet owners only. We may refuse an adoption for any reason. We do our absolute best to match the right pet with the right person or family. We are committed to finding forever homes for all of our special pets. We require an adoption application to be completed by prospective adopters. We require that all animals presently owned have a good veterinary care history. This includes necessary vaccines, heartworm testing and prevention for your dog(s), and necessary vaccines and Leukemia/FIV testing for your cat(s). We also require that all animals at your residence be sterilized, no exceptions. All of our cats are leukemia testing, wormed, treated for fleas/ear mites, and are given age-appropriate vaccinations. All of our dogs are wormed, treated for fleas, and are given age-appropriate vaccinations. Many of our animals are sterilized while at the shelter. The adoption fee for cats/kittens is $40 altered, $100 unaltered and the adoption fee for dogs/puppies is $75.00. We require, as mandated by the State of Michigan, that any animal adopted from our shelter who is not already sterilized must be done within the expiration date of the spay/neuter agreement.
