Adoption Days Calendar

Please see our updated calendar on the new site.
We will be showing our pets at the Pet Supplies Plus in Farmington Hills, on Orchard Lake Road south of 14 mile. Some of the kittens will be staying at the store in our new condo. You can meet the "First Ladies" right now. Jackie, Hiliary, Michelle and Rosalyn are 4 Tuxedo sisters who are looking for new homes. We will have the kittens and dogs at the store on the first and third Saturdays of the month. Usually our time is from 1:00 until 5:00. Times are subject to change depend on what attention the pets may need that day. Check our regular website for more information.

Introducing Keego Kitties

Due to the high number of stray and feral cats in our neighborhood, we got many calls about abandoned kittens. We took in over 105 kittens last year.... Lots of bottle feeding and sleepless nights, but we have the most wonderful kittens for adoption. Our kittens are very friendly, come when called, like to sleep with our big dogs and just little bundles of fun.

All kittens have age appropriate vaccines, have been wormed, are littler trained and will be altered before going to their new homes. See our pet list for the babies still available.

Other News

October 1, 2011 Update-. Due to a lack of funding, volunteers and foster homes, we have had to cut back on the number of dogs we can help. We CANNOT take any new foster dogs, and do not know of any places available in other rescues. Your best source for a Coonhound Rescue is still the Petfinder pages. We still have a few adoptable dogs and kittens available and will continue to seek homes for them.

Please do not ask me to take a dog in, it is so hard to keep saying "no". If you are willing to foster and support a coonhound until he is adopted, I will be glad to help you find a qualified adopter.

Again, we do not have places for new foster dogs. Unfortunately this will limit the number of dogs we can take into our care, unless we can find additional foster homes. Do you have room in your home and your heart to give a rescued coonhound a start at a new life as a cherished family pet? If so, or if you would just like more information, please contact Vikki at this Email: vik@coonhound911.org

Who We Are

Michigan Coonhound Rescue is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, dedicated to the rescue and placement of abandoned, stray and abused coonhounds into loving pet homes. We work with the Treeing Walkers, Redbone and English varieties. Our only funding is from adoption fees and generous donations from people like you.

Coonhounds are not for everyone, but for those who do understand the working of a hound's mind, they are the best family dogs we've found.

Adopting a Friend

We do require an application, references, an in home visit and an adoption fee. An adoption contract must be signed also. We can work with adopters outside of Michigan, however, you will be required to travel to Michigan to meet the dog you would like to adopt. You will be making a commitment to a pet for the next 10-15 years. I don't feel this can be done long distance.

Volunteering and Donations

Foster homes are always needed. We also need used blankets, large crates, toys, leashes, collars & dog dishes. Phone cards for long distance calls are always helpful, too.

Donations of money are always needed. Our vet bills have been very high recently. We also feed a high quality food, of which we are using 40# every 5 days!

Come Visit Us!

All of our pets are in private home. We have no shelter. We do show our pets at the Farmington Hills Pet Supplies Plus on some the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month. See our site for an up-to- date calendar. All other visits are by appointment only.
