THANK YOU FOR LOOKING TO RESCUE A DOG AND SAVE A WONDERFUL LIFE!
Alpha Dog Rescue is a local Maine non-profit dog rescue founded in 2005. We also list approved dogs in need of homes (what we call cross-posting or courtesy posting) for our partner rescues that we know and trust to help save more wonderful dogs from high kill shelters that we may not have had room for. There are many options for adoption through our network and no one is ever asked to pay for a dog or commit to a dog over the internet or prior to the actual adoption. If the dog listed is not currently with Alpha Dog Rescue, we will put your directly in touch with that dog's current caretaker so call us anytime to ask about any dog listed on our site :)
We require an adoption application prior to all meetings/adoptions.
We are a foster based rescue and the dogs we have so all meetings are by appointment only.
All of our rescued dogs are rescued based on temperament and are properly assessed by professionals prior to adoption, however continued training is almost always required for any new dog with a new family.
PLEASE NOTE, IF YOU HAVE A YAHOO or AOL EMAIL ADDRESS, YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT COME THROUGH SO PLEASE ALWAYS CONTACT US VIA PHONE IF FOR ANY REASON YOU DO NOT GET A RESPONSE FROM US WITHIN 24 HRS OF YOUR INQUIRY!
Please make sure you thoroughly read our adoption contract prior to adoption as it is a legally binding document. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask one of our representatives.
Please understand that owning a pet is for life and that all rescued or displaced animals will need patience, understanding, training and time to adjust to their new home.
All of our dogs are examined by a veterinarian and have all required vaccines, parasite control and other preventatives. We do our best to ensure our rescue animals are healthy and ready to be transferred to their forever home, however the stress of all of the change can cause them to be more susceptible to illness so we ask that all adopters give their new family members at least 2 weeks to adjust at home prior to bringing them anywhere.
We would NEVER knowingly adopt out an animal that is sick in any way or currently showing any signs of illness, but if for any reason you have concerns with your new pet, please call us right away.
Most all of the dogs that we rescue had been found as a stray and we have no history prior to saving them. If we do have a history on them, we will provide all of that information for an easier transition as well as their experiences with us in foster care. Very often we have to try to guess the breed mixture and age based on our veterinary suggestions and experience. Most dogs are mixes of many different breeds (what we like to call Heinz 57's-the best kind) so please note that we choose their breeds for Petfinder listing purposes based on what we see may be a dominant trait in them but almost all of our rescued dogs are so mixed that they aren't really a "breed" of any kind.
***WE CAN NOT TAKE PERSONAL CHECKS AND ANY DONATION GIVEN TO OUR ORGANIZATION IN THE FORM OF AN ADOPTION FEE OR OTHERWISE ARE NEVER REFUNDABLE***
ADOPTION FEE: $350 unless otherwise specified.
THIS WILL INCLUDE ALL VETERINARY CARE APPROPRIATE TO THEIR AGE AND TRANSPORT FEES.
All of our animals are SPAYED/NEUTERED unless they are not old enough at the time. If the dog you adopt is not altered at the time of adoption, you must have the dog altered by the age of 6 months (OR WITHIN 30 DAYS) and provide proof under a spay/neuter contract with a deposit which is strictly enforced, NO EXCEPTIONS
We do also recommend that you take your new dog for a check-up around 3 weeks after adoption and bring a small sample of feces with you to re-check for intestinal parasites, it's always good to re-check given their stress level during transfer and exposure to other animals :)
1. SUBMIT AN APPLICATION
2. SET UP A PHONE CALL WITH US ONCE YOU ARE NOTIFIED THAT YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN APPROVED TO GO OVER THE NEXT STEP.
3. MEET YOUR MATCH TO SEE IF IT'S YOUR FOREVER BOY OR GIRL AND THEN TAKE YOUR NEW FAMILY MEMBER HOME AND LOVE THEM FOREVER.
PLEASE BARE WITH US AS WE HAVE MANY INQUIRIES PER DOG AND TRY TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT FOREVER FAMILY FOR EACH DOG AND THEIR PERSONALITY BASED ON THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US! If you do not receive a call or email back within 12-24 hours, please call us again as things can get lost in translation!
