House of Hope Animal Rescue

Elkton, MD

Adoption Policy

House of Hope Animal Rescue is foster-based. We are not a shelter and do not own a kennel where our dogs are kept. All of our dogs are in foster homes. Once your application is approved, your adoption coordinator will assist you in scheduling a date and time to meet dogs you are interested in at their foster homes. You must be willing to travel to the foster homes to meet potential dogs. Thanks for your understanding.

APPLICATION PROCESS

All potential adopters are required to complete an adoption application. That can be done online or you can download and complete then mail or email it to us. Once your application is received, we’ll call your references, including your Veterinarian. All of your pets must be current on vaccines and on preventatives.?

Once all references are checked, we will get in touch with you to schedule a phone interview to go over your application and our adoption procedures. You may be contacted via email, so please keep an eye on your inbox, junk, and spam folders. Please know that we will reach out to you as soon as possible, but it can take up to 14 days depending on the volume of applications we are receiving. Please be patient with us.?

After the phone interview we will set up a time for one of our volunteers to conduct a home visit. This is to ensure that your home is a safe environment for a dog and is the final step in the approval process.?

Once your application is approved, you are ready to begin meeting dogs! Because we want each dog to go to the right forever home, it is not guaranteed that you will be approved for the dog for which you applied. In this case, we will work with you so that the right match is made for everyone involved. House of Hope spends a lot of time getting to know each dog so they can be placed with a family they are appropriate for as well as a family that is appropriate for them.?
