About Us

Our next adoption show will be held on SATURDAY, MAY 27, 2017, at the BELTSVILLE PETCO, Beltsville, MD, from Noon to 2:00pm.

No-obligation applications are encouraged before adoption shows to ensure a specific dog will be there, i.e., not all "DAWG dogs" go to all shows. The application form is located on www.dawg-rescue.org. Or simply write us at dawg@dawg-rescue.org on any Friday for a list of dogs at the next day's show.

Adopting A Friend

Gretchen -- Pekingese mix -- Female -- 3 yrs -- 11 lbs -- Black/Brown Merle -- Party Personality, Funny & Cute

Gretchen was a stray at a local shelter. Her perkiness caught the eye of our intake volunteer, who said Gretchen was the cutest dog ever! Well, let's just say one of the cutest.  Watch her newest video!

Who We Are

All-volunteer Best Dawg Rescue, Inc. (DAWG) rescues at-risk dogs in shelters right here in our community. We fully vet our selected dogs and get to know them to ensure a good “match” with their future adopters.

Once an application is chosen, we set up a home visit to review housebreaking and behavioral tips prior to adoption. We place dogs within a week or as determined by the adopter’s time table. If an adoption fails, we take our dogs back. We are committed to our dogs for the rest of their lives.

DAWG invites you to visit our animals on this web site and attend a weekly (Saturday) adoption event to meet some of our dogs.  DAWG does not have a shelter or facility.

How do we do all this?

Most new “DAWG dogs” from the shelter are ill with kennel cough and even pneumonia when they arrive, requiring several weeks of treatment in isolation. All dogs receive full veterinarian care, including an initial exam, vaccines, heartworm/tick testing/treatment if necessary, spaying/neutering, microchipping, and as-necessary specialty care such as dentals.

New dogs expenses quickly exceed $1,000 or more!  When you donate, you save a dog’s life and ensure a healthy reboot and future for each of them. Only 3% of donations cover administrative expenses such as insurance; all other funds “go to the dogs.”  Please help them!  http://www.dawg-rescue.org/donate/

Want to help by donating your time? Consider volunteering at our weekly adoption events. For information on volunteering, contact us at dawg@dawg-rescue.org.

Come Visit Us

DAWG does not have a facility but holds adoption shows every Saturday throughout the year!
Note that not all dogs go to all shows and that applicants must live in the DC metropolitan area for consideration.
Our two-hour, weekly adoption shows are an easy way to meet our fun-loving, affectionate dogs. Just keep in mind they may not focus on you when you arrive. They are having fun with their human and dog friends and are often distracted.  Ask a volunteer for a treat to get a dog's attention!

Want to meet a specific dog?  Please submit a no-obligation, online application before an adoption show you wish to attend.  Or write us on any Friday for a list of dogs attending the pending show.

If planning on attending an adoption show, please ensure all adults in your home and the family dog(s) are there. If your dog is shy, we will meet with you in an aisle or outside the store to promote a positive introduction.

Please refer to our website www.dawg-rescue.org for a more detailed explanation of our adoption process, show schedule, application form, and list of available dogs.
