Who We Are

The Partnership for Animal Welfare (PAW) is a non-profit group of volunteers chartered to facilitate the rescue and adoption of homeless domestic animals, mainly dogs and cats, and place them in loving and stable homes. Adoption shows are held in the suburban Maryland area several times a month to allow prospective owners to meet with the animals and with volunteers.

The group is funded by tax deductible donations and is run totally by volunteers. If you are able to help out by providing time, money or a foster home for a homeless pet, please contact us. You can check out information on volunteering, fundraising, donating, and so forth through our Web pages. Or you can email, write or call us at:

Adopting a Friend

Want to adopt a PAW dog or cat? Come to a PAW adoption show to meet dogs and cats looking for homes. PAW adopts our animals through an application screening process to ensure our animals go to the best possible homes. Because PAW requires a home visit to prospective adopters, we only adopt in the greater Washington DC metro area.

Volunteering and Donations

PAW is a private (non government) non-profit 501c(3) rescue group and funds itself through adoption donations and other donations. All PAW people are volunteers --allmoney goes to animals and not staff salaries. We have many volunteer opportunities. Click here or email the Volunteer Coordinator for additional information.

So you want to adopt a pet? Come to "Success with your new pet: Tips that work", a free workshop!

We've been fortunate to have helped many animals find new loving homes over the years. Read about some of our happy endings.

Come Visit Us!

PAW does not have a shelter or other central facility. Most of our homeless dogs and cats are kept in volunteer foster homes while permanent homes are found.

PAW shows our animals on weekends at Maryland-area pet supply stores. Check The Washington Post classified ads under Pets or check our online schedule for a complete list of shows.
