Who We Are

Schnauzer Paws Rescue is a small 501(c)(3) organization formed for the specific purpose of rescuing and re-homing Miniature and Giant Schnauzers, both pure bred and mixes. Based in Ware, Massachusetts, this rescue is run by experienced and dedicated volunteers who foster dogs in their homes and do all the work it takes to successfully foster and place dogs surrendered to its care. All donations and adoption fees are spent on the care of the dogs that come into the rescue. Although we place our dogs throughout New England, we do not ship our rescued dogs. We receive dogs from their owners for various reasons, i.e., divorce, death, relocation, lack of time, neglect. We also occasionally receive dogs that were dropped off at shelters or picked up as strays. The dogs' ages vary, but the majority are middle aged. Our dogs are carefully matched to adoption applicants.

Adopting a Friend

An Adoption Application and reference checks are required, as is an adoption fee. All dogs are spayed/neutered prior to placement. The adopter is required to sign an adoption contract agreeing to keep the dog as a house pet and return it to Schnauzer Paws Rescue if the dog needs to be surrendered for any reason.

Volunteers are welcome and always needed, especially for fostering dogs, providing transportation assistance, assisting with adoption screening, fundraising and public education.

As a 100% volunteer organization, and not-for-profit, contributions are greatly appreciated and go directly to the care of the dogs. Our funds come from your donations, our adoption fees, and our own pockets. If you would like to make a donation, please send to the following address:

Adoption Fees
Adoption fees are donations to Schnauzer Paws Rescue, they are not payment for value received. They are based on the age and health of a particular dog, and the expenses for it's care. A special needs dog's adoption fee will be determined on age and the medical care it will require.

0-1 year - $500 ($75 will be added and refunded once we receive proof of spay/neuter)
1-2 years - $400
3-4 years - $350
5-6 years - $300
7-8 years - $250
9-10 years $150
11 and older $100

All dogs adopted from Schnauzer Paw Rescue receive the following:

a.. Veterinary examination
b.. Spay/neuter (if time before adoption allows, if adopted out without a s/n, $75 will be added to the donation fee which will in turn be refunded to adopter after proof of s/n is sent to SPR).
c.. Rabies vaccination
d.. Distemper/Parvo vaccination unless aged 7 or older
e.. Treatment for worms and intestinal parasites
f.. Heartworm test
g.. Dental cleaning and extractions, if necessary
h.. Urinalysis, if necessary
i.. Bloodwork, if necessary.

If the dog has any other medical needs, they will be addressed. The dog will be groomed -- or shaved down if the dog's coat is very matted. The dog will also be evaluated for temperament so that it is placed in a home that is appropriate for it's personality and needs.
