Who We Are

RIVER REGION ANIMAL RESCUE is an ALL VOLUNTEER non-profit group. Any and all donations go to the CARE, FEEDING, SHELTER and MEDICAL CARE of the homeless, abused, neglected and feral animals in our care. Donations also go to helping indigent pet owners take proper care of their animals; so they stay fed and healthy. And don't end up at a kill-shelter. RIVER REGION ANIMAL RESCUE was formed in the challenging months after Hurricane Katrina by Ellen Head and Sherri Arias. Two independent rescuer's who teamed up to help the endless numbers of Animals still roaming the streets long after the storm. With little to no resources and a deep commitment to doing what's right for ALL ANIMALS we've gradually grown into a small but determined rescue. In the past 7+ years countless cat's, dog's, kitten's, puppies and other more exotic creatures have benefited from our group. Whether it be RESCUE,SHELTER, REHABILITATION, FOSTER HOME's, ADOPTION, TNR, FERAL CAT COLONY MANAGEMENT, FERAL FELINE or CANINE SOCIALIZATION, COMMUNITY OUTREACH and EDUCATION or FINDING and FIGHTING CRUELTY, ABUSE or NEGLECT. We just can't look the other way. Although we'll go anywhere and do, we have developed a special relationship with many of the residents of LINCOLN MANOR [a low-income, underserved neighborhood in Kenner, LA.] It has become our "TARGET AREA" So much so that some years back a group of the children started an "Animal Camp". We've gone on many animal related outings-even something as simple as feeding the feral colonies or visiting the local animal shelter-some a little more involved. But we always try to mix some fun in with the lesson's since just about all of these children are 12 years or under. It's our belief that the kid's care and even though their day-to-day life could easily suck the goodness out of the toughest of them it has'nt yet and being involved with Animal Care and Rights has had a positive impact on many lives - kids and furbabies. [on the"parents" too]. We constantly promote SPAY/NEUTER and network with other groups and Animal Advocates. We are members of "THE NO-KILL TASK FORCE" ,"THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF LOUISIANA", the LASPCA's "CARETAKER's CLUB", our local chapter of "THE FERAL MEET-UP GROUP" among others and we work closely with the "JEFFERSON SPCA" to get as many Animals Spayed and Neutered as possible; lowering the euthanasia rates at our local Jefferson Parish Shelters. Our Vetranarian Dr. Jessica Coates-Hudson of "PET'S R OUR WORLD" and her staff have gone above and beyond to treat these needy Animals we encounter. She honestly cares about the Animals first - as we've seen so many times over the years. We are Incorporated with the State of LA as a 'State Tax-Exempt NON-PROFIT and our 501c3 Determination is pending. While we are small we could not accomplish anything without our equally small group of dedicated foster parents and volunteers. Please if you are interested in helping out in any capacity PLEASE! contact us by phone or e-mail. The world needs you to help make it a better place! We are in dire need of VOLUNTEERS for a large variety of tasks, FOSTER FOLKS for Felines and Canines (EXOTICS also). And always DONATIONS of FOOD and FUNDS. We have a PAYPAL DONATE BUTTON on this Page; but we can always use GIFT CARDS for PETCO, PETSMART, WALMART, or VISA etc. CHECKS made out to RIVER REGION ANIMAL RESCUE are a Blessing too. Receipts and our TAX ID # are available upon request. If you'd like to make a DONATION of BAGS of PET FOOD please give us a call so we can make arrangements to meet up at your conve.nience.JUST THINK; IF WE WERE NICER TO ANIMAL'S WE'D BE NICER TO PEOPLE TOO- - - -

Adopting a friend

Here at RIVER REGION ANIMAL RESCUE we have many great pets up for adoption. From melt your heart puppies and kittens to grown cats and dogs. If you don't see what you're looking for on this or any of our other sites we can find it for you through our contacts with other Rescue Groups and Individuals. In particular our local overcrowded Jefferson Parish Animal Shelters. And we're happy to help. Our adoption process is very thorough. We start with a phone interview, a vet. and landlord reference check, a home visit [ and a possible meet your new family member] , we're temporarily foster based so it's often easier to bring the animal to you. We have an ADOPTION APPLICATION to fill out as well as an ADOPTION CONTRACT. These forms cement your commitment to the welfare of your adopted animal and although they cover alot of ground one of the most important we've found is that if the animal does'nt work out for any reason; no questions asked we will take him or her back and work to find a more suitable match. All of our animals are spay/neutered, with age appropriate shots and tested and treated for any parasites; including Heartworms. They are Vet. checked and are Healthy, Happy - so ready for the LOVE in a FOREVER HOME. We ask for a DONATION at each Adoption to help cover our costs and to make it possible to help the next homeless Animal that needs help. The suggested DONATIONS differ depending on the animal and how much medical etc. care it took to rehabilitate the rescue. [of course we're big softies honestly only interested in finding FOREVER HOMES for these poor babies - without going broke-Many of our staff and volunteers are physically/mentally disabled. We can empathize with the suffering, hunger, and homelessness that these animals live with day to day. If you'd like to adopt from us or through us please call ; 504-571-5894 - please leave a message and we'll get right back with you - I know when that phone rings we're going to be busy with a needy Cat or Dog or....something with fur or feathers THANK-YOU! - you can also e-mail RIVER REGION ANIMAL RESCUE at the address below!
