Our Mission

Mission Statement and History: Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO) is a volunteer-based organization created and dedicated to the rescue and aid of abandoned and homeless animals founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina as the first no-kill shelter to serve the New Orleans area. ARNO responds to the immediate aid of those in need of medical care especially those most at risk: the old, very young, sick, neglected, abused or deprived of love. ARNO supports the foster, adoption and reunion of pets with caretakers; as well as spaying and neutering of all companion animals. Since March of 2006 ARNO has rescued and rehomed over 11,000 animals. ARNO has taken in more than 1,000 cats and dogs since March of 2020 due to the pandemic, almost twice as many as the same time the year before. ARNO volunteers have worked frontline distributing pet food and helping people keep their pets through the ARNO Covid Community Outreach. Now due to Hurricane Ida we have taken in so many animals who have extraordinary medical needs and we continue to pull animals from LaFourche and St John Parishes as well as from local shelters.
