Our Pet List

About Us

Cat Haven was founded in 1999 for the purpose of rescuing and placing cats and kittens into good homes. Since its inception, we have placed over 9,000 felines with loving families and individuals. All cats who are adopted through Cat Haven have been spay/neutered, tested for Feline Leukemia Virus and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, received age appropriate routine vaccinations, and have been micro-chipped. Our Adoption Center is open for adoptions Monday through Saturday from 12:00 - 6:00 pm and Sunday from 12:00 - 4:00 pm. Cat Haven has a small staff and depends on volunteers, members and donors to continue its work. We hold fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for our program and operating expenses. Our annual gala, held here in Baton Rouge, focuses on our building requirements.

Cat Haven also relies on local veterinarians that participate in our program. They provide quality health care at reduced rates so that we are able to give our cats and kittens the healthy start they need before going to their new homes.

Cat Haven is a Louisiana nonprofit organization with a member Board of Directors that is responsible for all aspects of Cat Haven's operations and is accountable to our membership.

Volunteering for Cat Haven

Cat Haven is always looking for dedicated volunteers to help with the care of our cats, to provide foster homes, to serve as matchmakers at our adoption events, to help with LSU Spay Day, and to help with cleaning at our adoption center. As a non-profit organization, Cat Haven relies heavily on support from volunteers and the public. We could not continue our life-saving work without this help. Please visit our website at cathaven.org. Click on the volunteer tab to fill out an online volunteer application.

Spay/Neuter

In cooperation with the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, Cat Haven helps to coordinate a monthly Spay Day to offer a low-cost spay/neuter option to those in need. You are eligible to participate in this program if (1) you are seeking to spay/neuter unowned community stray or feral cats in your neighborhood for population control or (2) you would like to spay/neuter your personal pet and you qualify under certain low-income guidelines. To apply, visit: http://www.cathaven.org/services/spay-neuter-a-cat.

Adopting a Cat Haven Kitty

To adopt a cat from Cat Haven, you must be 18 years of age or older, complete an adoption application in person or at www.cathaven.org, work with a Matchmaker (adoption counselor), pay an adoption fee of $90.00 and sign an adoption contract in which you promise to care for the cat in a humane manner for its lifetime.
