Who We Are

Early in 1994, members of the Greater Louisville Golden Retriever Club began to see the need for an organization to rehabilitate and find homes for displaced and abused Golden Retrievers. A number of folks in this club began organizing an ad hoc rescue group. As the number of rescues increased over a period of months this wet behind the ears group came up with a name and in 1996, incorporated the organization now known as Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND). The rest, as they say, is history!

As an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, GRRAND has re-homed more than 4,000 Golden Retrievers since those early days of 1994. Averaging around 300 intakes per year, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home Goldens that have been abandoned, abused, or neglected along with those who are the victims of changed life circumstances such as financial hardship, divorce, allergies, relocation, illness, or death. The volunteer, medical resources and cost required to rescue one Golden Retriever are vast. We rely on Membership dues, Donations, and Fund-Raising for our income. The Adoption Fees reflect the expense incurred by GRRAND to ensure that each dog coming into our program is healthy and fit for adoption.

Adopting a Golden

If you have an interest in adopting please review our procedures, policies and adoption fees on the Before You Adopt page. There is a link on this page to start your adoption application. You may complete your application online or print the PDF version and mail it to GRRAND.

We are always in need of foster homes for Goldens coming in to our program. To see what is involved in fostering one of these sweet dogs visit our Foster Application page. You will also find the foster application on this page.

Please note that due to the limited resources of GRRAND volunteers we have limited geographic placement areas. Without exception, our adoptions are limited to the following geographic areas:
