We are a foster based rescue centered in Bardstown, KY. We were founded to help the dogs that are forgotten in the shelters and help the community re-home their dogs before they are taken to the shelter. We are here to make sure they get the second chance that they deserve. We offer adoptions and place dogs into available rescues all over the country in order to save their lives.
In the past 12 months, Barktown Rescue has saved over 600 dogs. The Nelson County Animal Shelter euthanized about 1,000 dogs last year, not because animal control officers wanted to; there simply is not enough space. All their dogs can be euthanized after being at the shelter for five days. There is a misconception that an attempt is made to adopt out all the dogs there. The shelter is closed to the public, not open to any adoptions. Our immediate and ongoing goal is to save the lives of as many dogs as possible.
Please check out our website www.BarktownRescue.org to fill out an online application!!!
Barktown Rescue is always in need of donations, dog food, collars, leashes, towels, blankets and sheets, cleaning supplies, crates and paper towels. We are also always looking for volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering for us, please email us - firstname.lastname@example.org for a volunteer application.
We are also in desperate need of foster homes. Barktown will take as many dogs from the shelter as they have safe places for. Anyone can be accommodated when it comes to fostering - Big dog, little dog, kept for two weeks or two months, completely up to you. We know the temperament of the dog and will not place a dog in an unsuitable environment; for example, a dog that is timid around small children would not be placed in a household with them. To fill out an application for fostering, go to www.barktownrescue.org and click the Adoption Application link on the left. In the space of the application that asks for the name of the dog, put foster. For more information, send an e-mail to email@example.com.
