We do have an adoption process including an application. We make every effort ensure a direct adoption is a good placement. We work with the potential adopter to find the right pet for their home.
Dogs and puppies may be adopted with an approved adoption application for only $65.
Cats and kittens may adopted with an approved adoption application for only $25 for cats over 6 months and $40 for kittens under 6 months of age.
Spay/neuter, updated shots/rabies, heartworm tested/FELV tested and microchips are included with all dog/cat adoptions.

We are an open admissions animal shelter for Shelby County. We are governed by the Shelby County Fiscal Court and operated by Shelby County tax dollars. We accept all unwanted and stray animals in our county. We also perfom all neglect and abuse investigations for Shelby County.
There are 2 exits to Shelbyville from Interstate 64.
If you use Exit 35 on the east end of town, you will be on Hwy 53 going north toward Shelbyville when you exit the Interstate. Stay on Hwy 53 until you come to US 60, and go left (west). This will become a one-way street, Washington. At 10th St., take a left. Pass Main St. Pass Henry Clay. Then you will see an angled road to the right which is Kentucky St. Take Kentucky St. After you go over the rail road tracks, you will see Tap's Feed on your left, and then the Shelby County Animal Shelter.
If you use the exit on the west end of town, you will take 32B, which goes north. You will be on Hwy 55. Stay on Hwy 55 until you come to US 60, and you will merge right onto US 60. Stay on US 60 until you see the Dairy Queen on your right. At the next intersection (there's a light) take a right on Mack Walters Rd. After you go over 2 sets of rail road tracks, you will take a left onto Kentucky St. Kentucky curves and meanders a bit, but after you pass the county road department on your right, you'll come to the Shelby County Animal Shelter, also on your right.
