Our Featured Pet...
We're working on our 11th Annual Walk for Life / Pet Fair. Please contact Sally Mayes at 785-238-8751 if you are interested in volunteering or donating money or items for the pet fair. Your generous donations and participation in our event helped to raise over $22,000.00 last year and all of the money raised went to help the homeless animals at the Junction City/Geary County Animal Shelter. Please stay tuned to our radio spot every week at 8:30 a.m. Thursday mornings on 1420 KJCK for more information on upcoming events and off-site adoptions to assist the shelter.

Who We Are
FRIENDS OF ANIMALS, INC. is a non profit, all volunteer organization that some animal loving citizens started in the fall of 2000 in Junction City, Kansas. We do not operate a brick and mortar rescue/shelter but rather work to find homes for and reduce the number of euthanizations of animals housed at the Junction City/Geary County Animal Shelter.
Our mission statement incorporates the goals we have regarding homeless animals in the JC/GC Animal Shelter. These goals are as follows...
1) To greatly reduce the number of animals that are euthanized each year by providing inexpensive or free spay and neuter programs.
2) To educate our youth and adults about the benefits of spay/neuter programs and shelter adoptions.
3) To find loving homes for adoptable shelter animals.
4) To ensure that animals are humanely treated and animal cruelty laws are strictly enforced.
5) To raise funds to ensure the success of the above programs.
We are now approximately 220 members strong. If you are interested in becoming a member, contributing to this cause, or if we can answer any questions for you, please contact Linnea Alt at (785) 210-7687 or Sally Mayes at (785)238-8751. You may also write to us at:

Adopting a friend
Any dog or cat located at the animal shelter will have a $30 adoption fee which covers the adoption fee and the vaccinations provided at the shelter. There is a refundable spay/neuter deposit on all animals that have not been surgically altered. The dogs or cats will still need a rabies shot and to be surgically altered (spayed or neutered) unless he/she is already altered.
When adopting a new pet, please keep in mind that each dog or cat will have a different personality and you should strive to find the pet that best fits your household. If you are not one who likes to walk and you do not have a fenced yard, a large breed dog may not be the best suited pet for your home. We simply ask that you take some time to make all of the considerations necessary to ensure that the pet that you choose will be in your home for the rest of the petís life. All adoptions require an approved adoption application so please be advised that adoptions are not typically approved on the same day that you find a pet that interests you. The shelter staff strive to ensure that all adoptions end in providing the pet a forever home so please recognize that we do not encourage on the spot adoptions. Thanks for understanding our policies - we try to put the pets first in this process.
