German Shepherd Rescue Indy
Founded in August 2011, GSD Rescue Indy Incorporated, is a 501(c)3, woman-owned organization. The Founder and President, Amber Marks, volunteered for over six years at a local kill-shelter before forming the rescue. Her love for the breed grew as she witnessed innocent shepherds being walked to their death due to their misunderstood behavior in the shelter. Cage aggression, intolerant handling, and their energy equated to low release rates to the public.
The rescue has been showcased on WTHR, WISH, WXIN, Indy Style, Pet Pals TV, and The Indianapolis Star. Since forming the rescue, over 490 dogs have been rescued from likely euthanasia. The goal of the rescue is to save as many adoptable GSDs as possible and adopt them to the safest homes possible within the state of Indiana.
Rarely will the rescue accept owners surrenders due to shelter shepherds having priority in placement. As with many rescues, space is the biggest issue in accepting new dogs.
