An open letter to A Cause for Paws volunteers and future adoptive parents:
Approximately 10 years has passed since first meeting Cleo, (a Lab/Chow mix) at “A Cause for Paws” in the Logansport Mall…In those 10 years we have been blessed with a companion that rivals and undeniably stands above all the others who were obtained through more traditional means. Cleo was adopted and, I believe, it has been through this self-realization, she has rewarded us with many special moments of gratitude. After about 3 years in Peru, IN, Cleo said goodbye to the Midwest and now resides in SE Idaho, where she spends her senior years, traveling through Grand Teton and Yellowstone Parks and various other NWR’s.

We are a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization. We have no shelter of our own, so we foster all of our animals in our own homes until we can find them loving forever homes. We rescue our animals from the streets of Logansport (and surrounding areas) and from local kill shelters. Our goals are to educate the public about the benefits of spaying and neutering and to create awareness about the consequences of breeding as we continue to save the lives of animals.
Our Adoption Center allows you to visit our foster animals and complete the adoption process. The Adoption Center is located at the Logansport Mall and is open Saturdays from 11AM to 4PM.
If you see a cat or dog that interests you here, give us a call or stop by the Adoption Center at the Logansport Mall on Saturday between 11-4 and meet them in person. All of our animals are looking for forever homes and lifetime companionship. Our adoption fees are $75 for cats and start at $125 for dogs. If the pet you adopt has not yet been spayed/neutered, you will receive a $20 refund once you spay/neuter the animal. The adoption fees help offset the cost of medical care for the animals. When you adopt from us you are assured that your new pet is healthy and up to date on all their shots. When you decide to adopt a pet, one of our trained volunteers will talk with you and assist you in completing an adoption application. We ask about your pet history, living situation and a variety of other questions that help us determine if you are a suitable forever home. We also require a photo ID. We may also request (and check) personal references. While it may seem that we ask a lot of questions, it's only to protect the best interests of your potential pet (and you!). Please understand that many of these animals have been abandoned by previous owners. We never want to put these sweet animals through that again, so we work very hard to make sure that any new pet-owner relationship is going to be loving, stable and forever, and is a perfect match for both you and your potential pet! But before you adopt, think carefully about your decision. Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment, both for you and the pet. Dogs and cats can live up to (and even beyond) 20 years. Your new pet will form a very deep bond with you. Remember that while you have your friends, family and the outside world, your pet has only you, and terminating your relationship with your pet for any reason is emotionally devastating to your pet. Of course, a relationship with a pet is a wonderful, enriching experience, both for you and the pet. Because almost all of our pets have been relinquished by previous owners or found as strays, we want to make sure that you and your potential pet are a match.
