Who We Are

Indy Service Dogs is not a traditional shelter or rescue organization. We are a small group of volunteer Dog trainers who train service dogs for mobility service and hearing ear dogs for the deaf. Our frist Service dog graduated in 1999 and went to work for a school teacher in Colorado who has Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. This dog was an Australian Cattle Dog named Stormy and her job was to carry a back pack with books, Open doors and fetch dropped objects for her owner. Since then Indy Service Dogs has graduated a select number of dog for hearing ear dogs, and mobility assistance dogs. Many of these dogs were mixes and many came from shelters. We occasonally foster dogs while we evaluate their temperment for possible training as a service or therapy dog. The dogs that may not make the cut as a service dog are then adopted out as pets.

Adopting a friend

Contact Us! And see what we have available or planned. We will send a copy of our adoption agreement/contract and tell you about our current dogs. We generally have medium sized dogs only, and because of the nature of our training we usually deal with herding breeds and retrievers, as those are the dogs we've found work best for service dog training.

Come Visit Us!

We have no shelter building, but are a group of volunteer dog trainers. Therefore please call for an appointment to visit one of our adoptable pets. We are located in and around the Indianapolis area.
