Who We Are

We are an animal control facility as well as an animal shelter. The mission of the Department is to work in partnership with the community to address problems associated with pet overpopulation, to promote responsible pet ownership and to enhance the health and safety of the community through the adoption of pets and the enforcement of County Ordinances and State Laws pertaining to domestic animal problems. Wild life problem's fall under the Department of Nature Resources (DNR). Please reference phone book for number.

Adopting a friend

We always have a lot of nice dogs and cats available for adoption at the shelter. For information regarding any of our pets, please contact the shelter at (812)738-8163 or come in and visit. H.C.A.C.F. requires a personal visit to the shelter facility for any adoption, an interview with staff will be conducted while you visit us there is a 24 hr waiting period for application approval for adoption. We have a contract that must be signed and initialed for any adoption. You must be 21 years of age or older to adopt an animal from the facility. H.C.A.C.F. has the right to refuse any adopter for any reason. Please visit or call the shelter and speak with staff for more information on our adoption policies. Veterinarian references preferred during adoption process. doption

Adoption Hours: Monday - Friday 2:30 5:30p.m. Saturday

Hours for turning in pets to HCACF:

Animals are accepted by appointment Monday-Friday 10:30-5:30p.m. Please be responsible and do not leave pets after operating hours,to do so is a crime IC 35-46-3-7). We only accept animals from Harrison County/must show proof of residency.

Can't volunteer? You can help out with a donation!

We currently need disposable gloves, dog toys, cat toys, Bathroom spray cleaner, litter pans, cat feeding bowls, gently used towels, gently used blankets, alcohol, leases, collars, paper towels, and flea shampoo. If you can help with any of these items we would greatly appreciate it. Also We need around ten more Kuranda beds(cot style) to keep the dogs from having to stay on the floor to sleep due to it makes them feel more comfortable during the time they have to be here. Thanks so much for your help.
