Who We Are

Save A Lab is a non-profit, home-based animal shelter, started March 4, 2001, dedicated to ensuring that domestic pets have safe, loving, permanent homes. We are a no-kill shelter, specializing in Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers, but no animal is turned away based on breed. The shelter is operated by two working professionals out of their home in Indianapolis, Indiana. Animals are rescued and trained in their spare time with the hopes of placing them in good permanent homes. Fostering provides an opportunity for the shelter to assess a dogs personality and temperment, which are then disclosed to potential adopters to the best of the shelter's ability.

Save A Lab can assist current owners in finding new homes for their pets via various search channels. When necessary, we will accept surrendered pets, and those animals will remain in the care of Save A Lab as long as is necessary to find them new homes. Save A Lab also rescues stray or abandoned animals.

Adopting a friend

Save A Lab screens adoption applicants, via written application, interview, and vet/personal reference checks. We reserve the right to decline any application for any reason. Our first commitment is to finding the ideal, permanent home for each pet. Adoption fees and donations are non-refundable.
